Figured I would get some help going while I continue to trouble shoot...

I have had this tractor for a few years, mitsubishi diesel motor.

It has always run great, it has 520 hours, I put on the last 100. Has had 400 hours service when I bought it from dealer.

It will crank great, with grey smoke coming from exhaust.
Fuel is good
Oil is good
Air is good
Hydrolic is good

I checked fuel filter and flow, good to injectors, no air, no water.

When key is turned to position 1, fuel pump is on, glow plug light goes on, then goes off after about 5 to 10 seconds, then I crank moter for about 10 seconds and no start.

This is the first time this has ever done this.

My feeling is that the glow plugs are not heating up even though the light is going off. It is like trying to start it without waiting for them to heat up on a cold day, which I have tried before, it is the same smoke (unburned diesel).

I have read other posts, and I will now take off the dash cover to see if mice have been in there. That is always a possibility.

Any suggestions would be great!

It has to be something other than the obviouse, I covered all that.

Thanks is advance.

Seems like you have covered the bases. You haven't dumped new fuel in it recently have you? Just thinking bad fuel or stirred up some crud in the tank. Even without all the glow plugs going and it is turning over you would think it would fire up. No PTO or Safety seat switches hung up? Although in that case it wouldn't turn over at all you would think.

I just went and made sure all fuses are good, no problem there.

I can't see how fuel went bad, It has only been about 1 week since last start with same fuel. Might have to try that down the road.

It is only 66 degrees here, so with no glow plugs, it probably wouldn't start.
Yet the light shows they are working. Some how I will have to try to find one and test it, unless it is too internal to get to.

Figures last night and today are the coldest in the week. If the temp were 80 it would probably start fine without glowplugs.

I'll keep checking.

OK Finally got it started.

Hope this will help someone....
after doing all I said above,
I then crack the fuel injector nuts, and cranked over just in case air was in line.
Looked for, but couldn't find the glow plug wires or plugs themselves to test.

So I figured it had to be the glowplugs all to weak in this cool weather, so I was just about to throw in the towel when I decided to use a little
Spray Starter for gas and diesel engines.

I sprayed a little in the air port, and cranked it over and it STARTED immediately. It ran rough and weak for about 2 minutes as a little black smoke came out, then started running back to normal.
I shut it off, then restarted and it fired up perfectly.

So thanks to all that gave it a thought, and I hope this helps someone!:D

I hear ya, it did say it was for diesels, and I used just a quick spray.

If it didn't start right away, then I would have moved on.

Starter fluid does have it's place. Just be careful. Engines can get addicted to it.

A lot of tractor diesels have there glowplugs in the air inlet. You can look for a heavy gage wire somewhere along the air inlet and that probably is your glow plug. Go easy on the starter fluid.

I vote for bad glow plug(s). Just because you have an indicator light doesn't mean you have heat for combustion in there. The rough running initial condition is the key indicator for me.

Next time try pushing or pulling it with a vehicle. That get's you enough RPM to superheat the compression mixture. No need to be dramatic, just get it up to walking speed and let in the clutch slowly. May take a few yards to clear her throat....

Ya I'm not out of the woods yet, after it cooled down it wouln't start again.

So I am going to have to test the glow plugs and power to the glow plugs. I will look in the air inlet to see if they are there. Otherwise it will have to go to the shops.:(
