I'm looking to buy a new mower, I have a an old Rally 42", 12hp rider. I,ve looked at JD, Husqvarna and White 54' cut mowers. All I will use it for is mowing, The Husky is nice but want a Kohler motor, other than motors they appear all the same. The only excertion to the rule is after researching on the net Cubs seem to have more troubles with their hydros.

Borrowed my friends Huskee 54" cut the other day and it cut my mowing time form 4.0 to 2.5hrs, he bought it at TS which they don't have anymore but sell White. But comparing the two they are identical mowers and I am a mechanical kind of guy and could find no fault with the Huskee while I used it.

I assume most of the parts for these mowers come from MTD or are manufactured by MTD. God knows I've replaced about everything on the Rally except the engine. Sooo, between JD, Cub or the White is this pretty much a crap shoot and I should just choose the 54" cut mower i like. Dealerships and box stores have pretty much the same prices so I'll choose a dealership purchase of course. The above staement concerning the hyros is probably mute for they probbaly all use the same hydro.

Any thoughts, thanks.

Do what your doing...choose the dealer that you think is best. I would not over look Simplicity models. They have the kohler engines and lots of nice features not found on deere/cub etc. Of course they cost a lot more too.

Go with the dealer you like, and the one with the best comfort since you are gonna be on it over 2 hours a week.
