Now start figuring out the fuel usage and the maintenance hours per hour worked.
I like to watch the old steam engines work, but it took a lot a work to run one of them also.
It would be interesting to see if a new piston operated steam engine with new controls would be a viable alternative.
I do believe if it was it would be in use.

A turbine needs "dry" steam as water droplets will cause it to come unglued.
The older steam pistons used a wet steam.
It's much harder to keep dry steam flowing as it has to be heated up above it's natural steam temperture.

Boilers like to blow up and maintenance on them is your freind and keep the operator alive. Steam tractors/engines weren't better, but tons and tons of maintenance.
