Hello TBN, first post but been lurking for a while. I got in a car accident and am currently in a wheel chair so I have some time for reading while I'm not working...

The native hydraulics on this tractor run the power steering and the three point. They were sketchy for a while because I couldn't get a seal to hold the hydraulic oil from migrating into the crank case. I seem to have got that under control by changing the location of the seal to avoid the groove in the pump shaft.

The FEL and BH are ran by another pump mounted to the front of the motor. The BH is very weak. Like will barely dig weak. The FEL works good but I don't know if the two implements require any where near the same specs to operate. So my main question is what would be a general rule of thumb for pump specs to run a say 6 foot back hoe spec wise? Ill have to see if I can ID the pump that's running it now to see if that even seems close, and go from there.

If your pump is tight and all the other components are good, and your pump has the capacity to produce about 2000 to 3000 psi, you should be able to work that BH very well.

Pressure represents the force to do work.

Now as far as speed of operation, the GPM of the pump will dictate the speed of operation.

As far as checking the pump out, remove the pressure hose and place in a 5 gal bucket and time the flow.

1 gal flow in 10 sec = 6 GPM

2 gal flow in 10 sec = 12 GPM

To check pressure use a 3000 psi gage.

Tractor HP will determine the size pump you can use.

Alright I'll have to try to acquire something of the sort. The pressure line going into the BH valves is pretty good size if that's where you want me checking it.

Im just a 25 year old guy that likes good old American toys, and bought this old girl to do some work at the property I bought, but wasn't impressed with the backhoe at all.

Actually are these fittings going to be standard NPT? as in I can just adapt a t in and plumb it right in line then just check the gauge?

They might be NPT.

Make sure you use hyd fittings, and not water pipe fittings.

Here are two hyd test sets made up by TBN members.

Thanks JJ Im going to find a gauge and some way to adapt it, but don't think I have an easy local solution. So I need to figure out what the threads I have are and get a gauge and fittings from the wild interweb.
