Tractor
jd 4520
Alright I am a noob at tractors and I have been getting very confused on terminology and what things actually do, I recently bought a 2009/10 JD 4520
from my understanding it has a factory power beyond kit. I need to verify this. The rear of the tractor has 2 hydraulic ports.

I guess the purpose of this post is to tell you what I want to be able to do with this tractor and you guys who know your stuff tell me what I need.

*I would like to be able to plug a log splitter into the rear ports to run it
*I would like to have aux hydro on the front end loader to control a skid steer auger. I want to be able to control the loaders up/down/curl AND be able to spin the auger foreward and reverse.
*Lastly when I find one for the right price I would like to ad a backhoe attachment.

Thanks in advance!

ok.. so you got a set of remotes.

sounds like a log splitter is covered.. speed will depend on your pump displacement.

extra loader function? still sounds like you are good using those remotes.. unless the remotes are not active due to a diverter when the loader is in use ( doubt it ).. then you should be able to use the remotes and loader together, keeping in mind total flow and displacement of the pump is spread.

What exactly would buying a 3rd function valve kit allow me to do? That is what the salesman i bought the machine told me I needed to buy to do what I described with the front aux. I bought this at a case dealer, it was a trade in

The 3rd function would put a set of hydraulic connectors out on the loader arm where you could use them to run a grapple or possibly (depending on the amount of flow available) an auger.

A power beyond kit normally means a pair of connectors that are connected to themselves when not in use to allow the normal loop flow to pass through. It can be used for an implement with its own valves like a log splitter or backhoe by adding the implement to the loop while the engine is turned off. There should also be a third connector for a low pressure return line.

A rear remote has 2 connectors that are not connected when not in use. It has it's own control valve with a lever to control a hydraulic cylinder or motor directly. It can be used for an implement like a log splitter by using a bungee to keep the lever actuated or some valves have a detent.

A third function valve is the same thing as a rear remote except it has controls and plumbing that are more handy to using the loader.
