I don't personally know these people, but by accident crossed paths with them. It takes some very remarkable people IMO to do what they did to save others.

I can't even begin to fathom what people must go through. Just knowing about a story such as this breaks my heart.

READ WINSTON-SALEM ~ Brody Malcolm Read May 25, 2011 ~ June 3, 2011 On Wednesday, May 25, 2011, at 3:15 pm, we were blessed with our perfect baby boy, Brody Malcolm Read. We were fortunate enough to spend 5 glorious days with our little angel. Sadly, on June 3, 2011, at 11:15 a.m., his death was pronounced. However, we know that our baby died in my arms late in the evening of May 30. We are currently waiting on the official cause from the medical examiner, but the doctors are fairly certain that his death was due to SIDS. We have decided that Brody was just too perfect for this world. He was the perfect pregnancy, birth, and baby. In the early hours of June 4, 2011, Brody gave the gift of life to 2 other children. Through Carolina Donation Services, Brody was able to donate his heart to a baby in Maryland and his liver to a baby in Massachusetts. We have determined that it was our job to bring Brody into this world so that he could give life to these children. He was our little miracle, and these families' hero. This thought gives us the peace in our hearts that we so desperately need. He was only on Earth for 5 short days, but he will make a greater impact than we will ever aspire to. That gives us the comfort and joy that will get us through the days ahead. We want to say a special thank you to all the PICU staff at Baptist Hospital. The nurses and doctors not only gave Brody superior treatment, but also love, which meant the world to us. Their generosity and compassion will stick with us for a lifetime. Ryan and I are moved beyond words at the love and support that we have received by so many people. In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to Brody's charity, a memorial fund set up in his honor to assist the patients and families of patients at Brenner Children's Hospital at times when family members may be unable to visit due to financial issues. We are looking into transportation and housing assistance, among other ways to benefit. We were fortunate enough to not have to leave his side, and we feel that it is our obligation to see that other families have that same opportunity. Any amount that can be donated will be greatly appreciated and can be made to Brody Read Fund, 4498 Lochurst Dr., Pfafftown, NC 27040. We are also working on a website (BrodyRead.org) and Facebook page to provide information about Brody and his charity. Brody is survived by parents: Ryan Read and Teryl Hensley; sister, Caitlin Read; grandparents, Dale & Diane Read, Beth & Mike James, and Paul & Jannie Hensley; great-grandparents, Edith & Jim Sifford, Paul Hensley Sr. & Edna Wolfe, and Sue & Kirk Essic; loving aunts, uncles, and cousins; and the most amazing supportive friends in the world. A small private Service will be held on Tuesday. WS 57749

Very good indeed. I also marvel at the fact we have doctors that can take a 5 day old baby's heart and liver and transplant it into another baby. Simply amazing. Makes what I do seem downright stone age.
