Someone has been opening rural mailboxes around here and apparently looking for prescription drugs. A number of neighbors have had prescription packages torn open and this occurs as often as once a week or more. No mail appears to be missing. The drug company thinks they are looking for inhalants because none of the prescriptions have been missing. This has been going on for a number of months and several have complained to the postmaster of this small town. Problem is, nothing is being done and we aren't sure what to do. Many are Amish/Mennonite and won't complain because they just don't do that.

A car appears to be following the mail truck and seems to know where to stop but that's just a guess. Some have seen the vehicle. Has anyone experienced anything like this and since nothing is being done, any ideas what to do next?

Contact the Postal Inspector. It's what they get paid to do.

A lot of people around here are saying we don't have a drug problem...(head in sand). And around Christmas time a new term was invented..."porch pirates". The best advice I have heard is to go back the old days and pay for a post-office box. Sad times we live in but we reap what we sow...

Notify the postmaster in your local Post Office of the problem. They will contact the proper postal inspector to start an investigation.

We can no longer put checks in our mailbox due to thieves. I pay everything online nowadays or if we do write a check I place the envelope in a postal mailbox they can't get into. This started years ago when our daughter was young. We would get birthday cards from relatives that had been opened and the money stolen. Had a few bills we paid never get to the place we mailed them but didn't have any get cashed.

My mother-in-law has a post office box and since my wife has to check her mail we have any checks we receive sent to that.

Get a camoflaged trail cam and set it up to get photos then give the evidence to the Police. I doubt a postal inspector will be much use in the short term anyway.

Notify the local media, TV stations of your problem. You will get attention from the Inspection Service when your story is aired.

has happened around my area a few times.. Doesn't happen on a regular basis.. I knew nothing about it until I talked to our postal carrier.. He advised me not to put mail in my mail box or leave mail in the mail box over night.. said the thieves would hit early am hours. taking mail ,and drugs. Said they found mail they didn't want thrown up and down the road..

Sad times we live in.. I remember (as a kid) when the milk man made home deliveries, and would leave milk, eggs, etc, on the door steps, and no one bothered a thing..
These days,I hardly go anywhere without being armed..Because you never know who or what's may happen at any given time
