Last year, when my wife & I were in Capri, Italy, we had a lemonaid. What I wasn't expecting is that it was not watered down and was a slushee type drink. It was NOT "lemonaid on ice" but rather, it was a slurrey of ice that was simply intensily lemony in flavor.

It was soooooooooooooo "clean" tasting although I don't know if that makes sense to anyone.

It also gave you a headache if you drank it too fast... it was REALLY cold.

My question is... does anyone know how to make something like that?

I do not have one of those counter top 'slushee machines" that keeps something mixed and I fear that will be a small issue (won't be able to make a batch and have it available for while... have to make a smaller batch and drink it all)

Anyone know what the recipe is?

I just bought 3 bags of lemons and am ready!

I was gonna suggest planting some Lemon Trees but seeing as you bought some lemons thats a no no.

When you figure it out please let the rest of know. It sounds like a mix that would go very well with any of a half dozen or so ingredients added but only one type per glass.:D

Was it anything like a lemon shake-up you can get at fairs? They are mighty tasty though I don't know the ingredients (other than real lemons and ice).

I'm not sure (since I don't "drink") but I'm beginning to think this is more like a margurita (sp?).

My wife will put some ice into the blender, put some kind of mix into it and absolutely destroy that ice!! (she loves this blender).

Comes out as a liquid of ice...

I'd speculate that is the closest thing that this lemon drink was.

I just squeezed 3 bags of lemons yesterday...willing to try this. Was hoping someone would have a basic recipe... (2 cups ice, 1/4 cup lemon juice, 1/4 cup sugar) kinda thing...

I guess I'll get to experiment!! One nice thing about the mistakes, if they're too sour my wife will LOVE them and if they're not then I will.

This one works for me... sorry it took so long for me to find it...

8 to 10 lemons
1 tbsp. grated lemon peel
1 to 1 1/2 c. lemon juice
8 c. water
1/2 tsp. salt

For a difference in flavor, add 2 or more cups of another fruit that is sliced, diced or pureed. Such as strawberries, cherries, watermelon, raspberries.
In saucepan, bring to a boil 2 cups water and 2 cups sugar. Let cool. Then mix together in an ice cream freezer as you would regular ice cream.

Mmm. I'm gonna try this today! I'll let you know how it works out. Thanks

When I was a kid, we would go into the city (New Haven, CT) for Gelato, or Italian Ice. It was usually lemon flavored. It is made like ice cream, where the ingredients are combined and then frozen like ice cream, as opposed to pouring flavored syrup over shaved ice, which is a Snow Cone. Luckily, we have a good Italian Ice place only a couple miles from our house when I need a fix.

I tried a little experiment last night (I didn't even think of making something to put into freezer)

I had already squeezed (squoze? :D) about 3 bags of lemons so I had a pitcher full of lemon juice.

Knowing I can't keep it frozen, I decided to try to make a single glass. When I make lemonaid, I use 1:1:4/5 (1 part lemon, 1 part sugar to either 4 or 5 parts water, depending if my wife has a say so)

Thinking I'd try to keep that basic ratio, I was going to use ice instead of water.

I took a 1/4 cup sugar, 1/4 cup lemon juice and put together to try to get the sugar dissolved.

how much ice?

I put a full measuring cup of ice into the blender and had at it.

What was interesting is, the entire concoction froze somewhat and stuck to the sides instead of revoloving around the inside of the blender so it would mix.

I ended up needing to put a dash of water in there to loosen it up, tasted it...then needed to put a dash of lemon juice in there.

That's it... I poured into a glass (using a spatula to get it out since it was too icy to pour).

I couldn't find straws so I used a spoon to spoon it out, sort of like a sorbet.

It was good. Probably not as good as what I had in Capri however, for a first experiment I was close enough.

IT WAS COLDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

I could only eat a couple spoonfuls before I got the head cold. This really cut through me and froze me to my tonsils!!

Wife is out with her sister today but when she gets home we're going to try to make it again.

Another lesson I learned, I do NOT need to squeeze 3 bags of lemons to make this!!
