Tractor
Kubota L3240
Hello.

I have a Kubota L3240HST that I purchased in 2007. It has approx. 560 hours on it. I have had zero issues with this tractor until, possibly, now.

Yesterday, after doing some plowing, when I parked the tractor my wife noticed a small drip of fluid coming out of the bottom.

I crawled underneath the tractor and noticed an unusual looking fitting that was leaking a small amount of what appeared to be oil. I had no clue what this fitting was so I turned to the manual. The fitting is ssomething called a 'split pin plug' and is located under the clutch housing. It is designed to drain any water from the housing.

Well, this is all well and good however there are two problems:

1) It has been dry as a bone for the past couple weeks. I don't see how any water could have gotten into the clutch housing.

2) The fluid leaking out seems to be oily.

So, my question is, how concerned should I be? To the best of my knowledge I have never seen anything come out of this fitting before and I have had the tractor in some very wet situations.

I will include some links to a few pictures of the fitting in question. Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Welcome aboard, Snarg!
That's an interesting handle - I'm assuming it has nothing to do with SNARGE?

If it has been cold at night and warm during the day, then it might be possible for water vapor to condense enough to form a few drops that could wash some oily rediue off the inside of the housing and out the drain. Is the fluid clear or dark? Hope that's all it is. UDT & SUDT resemble water, while engine oil in my L3240 tends to resemble coffee left in the pot all day long. Give it a sniff - that's sometimes a good diagnostic, too.

Baby Grand,

Thank you for the reply. Once I cleaned all the dirt off, the liquid seemed more clear then dark. It also felt slightly oily. There was no real smell that I recall. I choose to not taste it :)

P.S. No, nothing to do with SNARGE. I have had this handle on the Internet for more years then I can remember.

Where is the level of your hydraulic fluid now? Top it off to full mark and watch level over time. When checking, make sure all of your cylinders are in the same location to duplicate readings. Out of that hole, you will either get water, engine oil if leaking seal, or hydraulic fluid if leaking seal. Philip.

I have the L4240 and that happened to my tractor at 550 hours. It was the seal housing that came loose of the trans input shaft ( that is what they told me). I was just getting ready to go out of warranty, so it was fixed at N/C. The bad thing is, it started doing it again last week at 750 hours. I'm fixing it this time and find out what they did wrong, if they did or just miss something. I just got the loader all off yesterday and should be splitting it next week. There is a housing, a gasket, and a seal that could be leaking. I might even put a new housing in if I can't find anything they did wrong. I'm also going to call them and see if they can look up the claim and tell me the parts they put in.

I have one of those on my L4400. The day I picked it out at the dealer I saw a small drip of clear like fluid hanging from it. Dealer said it was a drain of some sort. I haven't checked it lately, but haven't noticed any drips from it since day one. Mine is parked on concrete so I would notice if it had been leaking. I think condensation could cause it to drip once in a while as well.
