Where do I begin.....
Just got a line on a mint 860 Ford (less than 1000 original hours!) I know the X6X part means live power. It's a 5 speed as I'm told. But the question of the day is, what horsepower is this tractor? I'm looking for a winter project. This could be the one!

Hope it works out. The 860 - nice tractor. I can't tell you everything, but a bit I do know. The 800 was the first to use a much larger (bigger than the N - NAA) frame and new 172 cu in Red Tiger engine.

The HP ratings are here:

The x6x does mean 5 speed, live power and hydraulics. Some versions of the 800 had no hydraulics at all and not-live PTO.

Other really good information can be found at the following:

Yep.. 172 engine.as other poster stated.. and mid 40's hp.. unless diesel.. Made 1955-1958.

X6X is indeed 5 spd stacked tranny, and live pto, via 2 stage clutch. If your pto doesn't act live.. check the mounting hole inthe clutch pedal linkage.. pedal will be ridiculessly 'high' when it is setup properly for 2 stage clutch operation.... There's always a chance that an 850 rear end was substituted if you can't get live power... or clutch stage is froze.. etc.

Good unit.. better if it has good working factory optional power steering.

Gasser. It does have power steering. Good rubber. Live power is working. Sheet metal perfect. Rear wheel weights. Paint is all there, but looks near 50 years old. Under $4000. I was looking for something newer, about double the horsepower, with heated/A-C cab, and diesel. Close enough I guess! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Good rubber is about 700$ worth of value. Wheel weights are a nice addition, as well as the power steering.

Sounds like a good buy to me.

Gotta wait until friday afternoon to go get it. Seller has stated his "first one there with the cash in hand" sales policy. Hope it's still there friday. (Company at the house already. Maybe I can talk them into going on a tractor buying trip with me instead of eating turkey?)

Sounds like a good thing to do on a full stomach. With whatever that drug is, triptaphene, or whatever turkey has in it, you'll be less likely to move to fast and make a bad decision. If it was me, and it sounded as good as it does, I think I'd be spending every waking hour just thinking about it - no way to spend a holiday though. Good luck, and hope it's all it sounds to be. My Dad had the 172 cu. in. Red Tiger engine in a 981 and although the tractor had the Selecto tranny, and an occasional minor problem with it, I still can here the beautiful thup, thup, thup, thup sound of that classic engine. Sounds like you're about to come into a gem.

Your tractor brings back fond memories of the 860 that I used to drive. I had to struggle with the non-power steering on it. That addition would make it a terrific tractor.

Less than 1000 hours? That's terrific! Enjoy yourself.

It would have been a nice addition. UNFORTUNATELY Things didn't work out. It sold yesterday before I could make the drive to get it. So, I keep looking for that perfect winter project.

DARN! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif Can you post the seller's name and address so we can send him some TBN hate mail? /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif Doesn't he know how we were all looking forward to seeing this project. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
