Anybody know a source for cheap trailer axles in canada? Either mail order or B/M in the nova scotia/ new brunswick area?

Im looking for 2- 3500 lb axles with brakes. Just bought a larger machine and need to upgrade my single 3500lb axle (trailer is built for 7000 capacity)

Checked princess auto... they want $399 for a single 3500 with brakes and no suspension.

To add brakes to my unbraked 3500 will be almost 400 in parts so it makes more sense to just replace it with two new axles.

Any ideas?

Princess Auto sales are good in the maritimes or lots of the ontario places sell cheap axles. Getting them is another story.

Im holding out for the next flyer. Guy at PA says its been a long time since the 3500's with brakes were on sale. Might be due?

Called work&play for a price on some dexters... $420/axle +$28.65/spring + $69.95/ hardware kit.

CinderSchnauzer: thanks for the link. Prices are similar to PA.

Ironically i got a price the other day on a 7000# Gator made equipment trailer.... $3500... Dont know how they can do it so cheap considering the price of parts/

Scooby

As you know I deal in trailers, mainly boat trailers, but have lots of sources. In 2003 I had enough of my monster GN, 25,000# GVWR. I decided to build a 18' car hauler type trailer. I priced out everything and it was nearly twice what it would cost to buy a new trailer pre-built. Matter of fact I could only buy the steel, wood, and paint for the same money. I was still short lights, wiring, axles, wheels, tires. I do not see how they do it either.

The trailer kit parts are WAY overpriced. Look at how much they charge for the spring hangar kits.

I wanted to build a 20' 14k flat bed. I found several suppliers that offer the whole kit as one package the axles, springs/hangars, rims/tires, lights, wiring, tongue jack, coupler, chains, break away kit. The kit costs about $2600.00 with free shipping. I have yet to price the cost for the steel, paint, and wood deck.

I can buy a new 20' 12k to 14k for anywhere from 3800 - 5000 depending on the weight rating and how deluxe it is.

Used prices are all over the place 1500 to 4000.

Unless I find a cream puff deal on craigs list I'll probably buy new

You know, the more I think of it you are opening a can of worms here. You will need all new springs, most hangers, equalizers, fenders, wheels, tires, ect. If you are extending the trailer this is a whole other mess with new decking, steel, wiring, ect.

If I were you I would clean up my current trailer and sell it. Use that money toward the trailer you want and need instead of trying to cobble something up. This way you are starting from new top to bottom.

Chris, it wont be a can of worms.. at least i dont think it should be,

When i built the trailer i copied it off a tandem dump trailer,so its quite heavy. I actually planned on cutting off the side rails and adding a dump body and brake equipped axles when finances allowed. That was all part of the original plan when i built it years ago.

Really all i need to add is the axles and power for the brakes. I also have to re-enforce the hitch area and it could use a new deck and paint. The dump will still have to wait.

Im kind of over a barrel here... Just got a new BX25 and it will be maxing out the 3500 pounder under it and putting too much pressure on the hitch. Really i need to add an axle and strengthen the hitch.

But at almost 1000 for axles and battery its going to get expensive.... I might be able to strengthen the hitch and drive slow till the axles go on sale at PA.. Assuming they EVER go on sale that is.

Prices you pay are crazy. I can get you a new 16' Car hauler, used tires, 5' slide under ramps, and brakes on one axle for $1,180.00 That is here though, not NS.

For $250 you can upgrade to new tires all around.

Just for interest; A few years ago the axles on my trailer were replaced. The new ones were ordered from a local shop selling steel from a firm in Montreal.

Can't recall the cost.:)
