Had my first hose blowout yesterday, a pinhole leak on a bucket dump hose. What's my best bet on sourcing a replacement? I have at my disposal the following, all about the same convenience:

JD Dealer
TSC
Rural King
Hydraulics Shop
Internet

Pros/Cons of each?

TIA /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I've had better luck going to my JD dealer than TSC. They have all the equipment to custom make a hose if needed, along with most any coupler I would want. My TSC's choice of hydraulic parts is pretty slim.

In my town, I'd go to NAPA. They are likely a bit better than the stock hoses, at slightly less cost, and can make them right up.

Howd'ya do it?

I was 'hoggin the outer perimeter of the property yesterday, much of which is covered in thorny raspberry bushes. Getting in closer than usual to keep them from creeping out too far. Best I can tell, the hose didn't like the thorns much. This hose is pretty exposed on the top of the lower part of the loader arm. For all I know though, there may have been some damage from some previous encounter as well. No biggie, I didn't lose much fluid and there is no mess to deal with.

I'm now leaning towards the dealer as I can also grab my filters and oil for 200 hour service coming up /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

If you go to any place other than the JD dealer, or even the JD dealer, make sure you get at least a 2-wire 4000 psi hose. A lot of OEM hose is only 1-wire and 3000 psi or less. The 2-wire braided hose (typically called R2) is way better for only a few cents more per foot. BTW, the 2-wire hose from Parker is rated at 5800 psi.

To follow up on this post, I ended up getting the hose at my dealer. I called the other day and ordered some cylinder rebuild kits for my backhoe, new swing bumpers, filters, oil and the hose. They don't stock the hose so the parts girl said they'd make it up when I picked the other stuff up. All seemed well and the hose only took a minute to make.

Got home though, and realized they put fixed ends on both ends. One end needs to swivel so you can install it. I called them back and they agreed so after an extra trip to the dealer I got what I needed.

Tractor is back in action and I did rebuild one leaky stabilizer cylinder successfully. Still need to do my swing cylinders but they are pretty well buried and will need more of my time to remove.

I'll also post some pics of that. I'd never done a cylinder before and I suspect others may want to see just what's inside too /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
