I loaned out my plastic 55 gallon barrel and of course it came back missing a bung plug (the fine threaded one).

Does anyone have a good suggestion for a source to get another one?

Thanks.

The fine threaded one is 2" npt pipe thread so any pipe plug will fit.

mcmaster carr will have them if you want a new plastic one

Thanks, guys.

The odd one is a Buttress thread. BTW, if all else fails on a local search, PM me and I'll send you one of each. I think I can spare them.

Thanks for the generous offer. I'm going to super tighten the coarse threaded ones so they don't get used (and lost). I did find a plastic PVC plug at the big box store for 88 cents that works perfectly. The trick was knowing that it was standard pipe thread and what size.

In my search of drums to build these 2 projects I must have wound up with about 15 extra drums that I didn't need.
I sold the extra drums and kept the bung plugs if the person buying the drum wasn't going to use them for something like what I built .
As a result I have a few extra plugs for my system in case I need one.

Hey Lb, i was thumbing through your pics and saw outer end picture, you know they make fittings like what you welded up? Check out threaded tank fitting at mcmastercarr

Thanks for the Info! I searched every where I could think of and couldn't find anything like this around here when I built these 2 fuel storage set ups.

I need a coarse thread plug for my barrel. Did the big box store have both or just the fine thread? If both, which store?

Thanks for the help...

Just the fine thread. I've seen replacement bungs on the internet but with shipping - not cheap.

2*that helps the OP How ?

2*It helps the op if someone in his area just might have done what I did.
It would also help him if I were to send him a plug would it not?
Careful you don't bite the hand that feeds him.:D
1*May be true in your area but unfortunately it taint so in mine and the OPs areas.
Drums are 15 to 20 dollars a piece when and if you can find them in these parts.

Point is LB . The OP was allready offered a plug & declined , as He had allready solved his problem before you posted your pics . Plus You mentioned you had several spares in case YOU need them , I didn,t see an offer to send him any . But then again I read all the posts, not just the ones I want. :D

I also noticed You spoke for the OP that the Barrels were high priced in his area as well as in your area, I dont recall Him saying that. But I recon it could be. Luckilly I have a local Craigslist site I can get mine from .

At any rate it seems his Problems solved & thats the main purpose for this forum . I recon I just get sick of seeing your same ole pics posted over & over & over again. Must just be me . . Bob

These barrels seem to go for about 10 to 15 dollars on Craigslist, locally. I didn't want to buy a whole 'nuther barrel just to get a bung plug. I have too much clutter now - wife would kill me .

Thanks again for all the help.
