As for rear ballast instead of the weight box, I would look at a rear blade - the rear blades are very useful in clearing snow down to the surface. And since you are using the blower, it should be a killer combo

I would suggest hanging a few suitcase weights to the rear blade because it is lighter then the weight box. I have blown snow for over 10 years with turfs and think they give more grip on icy surfaces then industrials or Ag's.

funny I have the opposite opinion based on my own experience

I use AG's without chains on my garden tractor with a blower and lots of weight - the option of turf and chains is there as well (seperate rims setup) but havent had the need to switch.

I use loaded R4's, Fel and rear blade on my compact 4wd without issues.
The advantage of R4's and AG's is the ability to clean themselves better than turfs, giving a better bite overall than turfs (without chains) per rotation.

However turfs are the best with chains and the chains seat the best on turfs compared to AG's or R4's with chains...

Another key advantage is the poster is using a blower with his setup. Big difference in removing snow, and without the pushing forces involved with using a blade on snow...
