I am planning to install a Class 2 reciever hitch on my '04 Lesabre, the best price I have found for the hitch is from an Ebay seller, $134 delivered. Yet the only Ebay source I can find for the wiring hookup is about $65 delivered with free shipping. Seems very steep for some basic wiring. The seller makes it sound like you need a rather complex hookup to install just a standard 4-way flat trailer plug. Thanks for any advice.

It probably has a converter in it. Many newer car have seperate brake and tail lights and the convert takes both of them as inputs and send it out on a single circuit to work with the trailers single lite setup for this function.

Just get the wiring harness.

Went out and pulled the plastic trim off the inside of the trunk, car uses one bulb on each side so I don't need a converter. Will just buy the harness and a heavy duty flasher. THANKS....

I can not see why its so expensive then? They usually are around $30. Have you tried Advanced Auto or Auto Zone. I get a lot from there. They usually do not have them in stock but get them by 9am the next day if I order before noon.

Only reason I can think if its that much money there also is its odd ball and no other cars use it and they just simply do not sell enough for the Buick.

I just did some additional checking. Etrailer.com wants the same price.

I think the issue here is the Buick circuit is not big enough to power trailer lights and will blow the fuses. Good old GM wiring again.

What the kit has is a relay box that takes the signal from your rear lights but uses a power source from the battery or fuse box to power the trailer lights. It also has a converter built in but as you stated you will not need it. It has wiring instructions for both ways of wiring. Its not vehicle specific.

Here is the instruction manual.

Just get the kit or you will be fighting wiring issues for the trailer and tail lamps of the car for the rest of your life.

You can also try your local U-Haul, they have fair prices and good products. The money you save on shipping can probably get it all installed.

Will check that also, there is a U-Haul outlet about 5 miles away. Thanks.
