Space Heater for Tractor...??

Agree with block heater (a real one), mag heaters maybe ok as auxiliary. Electric radiant dish heaters (like 50 bucks at Costco) are a useful addition we've found helpful both for warming you if working on equipment and for warming equipment, just don't put them too close. They direct the heat and so don't need to try to heat a whole big space (which can be impossible sometimes).

From my military experiences in New England, I would think that any kind of heat would aid in starting your tractor.

I personally like my block heater. I had my dealer install it for a little amount of money. The timer idea sounds good too. About an hour before cranking it over makes a world of difference. Keep in mind block heaters don't do anything for your hydraulic system. Let it run for a while and get the "Juices" flowing good. Good luck.

I also had my dealer install an engine block heater. My tractor is stored under a leanto, I plug the heater in while I shovel the deck, sidewalk and in front of garage doors. By that time, the engine block is warmed up and I start the tractor, raise the RPM's a little for a few minutes, raise and lower the front mounted blower, and then start snow blowing.

There are lots of threads here about block heaters and how long to plug them in before starting. I usually plug mine in (you need 120VAC access) 30 to 60 minutes before starting.

BTW, I put a through wall 15K BTU propane (LP) heater in my garage/shop, which I leave on the lowest setting (55F). If I intend to be in there for a while, I turn it up to around 60F.
Good luck.
