I get many a day because I have a land line. I don't get cell reception due to my remote location and need the land line. I installed caller ID to know who is calling and don't answer the unknown numbers and let the machine answer them. Today I reached the boiling point when I was woke up at 5 AM by one and there were 5 more in the next few hours. These foreigner accented jerks don't stop even though I am on the don't call list.
They use my area code and local 3 digit number disguising their location and when I call them back the number has been disconnected? I finally lost patience and when Rajah called again I kept him on the phone long enough to put on my hearing protection and give him a blast from my air horn. My ears are still ringing and I wonder how his are? Anyone have a better solution to my problem they wish to share? I know I am not the only one here to be bothered by these jerks?

Put your phone in silent mode if you have that feature. The phone will only ring if somebody on your whitelist calls.

I’ve been getting 2-3 a day that my vehicle warranty is expired. I pretty much don’t answer unless I’m expecting something or the number is in my contacts.

I have Majic Jack and have it set up so when someone calls they have to input one random number to connect, works for me!

Im getting 5 a day on each phone, my work phone and my own personal phone. Both are Verizon and when you call a big company like Verizon all they want to do is milk you out of more money. IMO I think these spam calls are orchestrated by these big companies....so they can sell you an add on protection plan for an extra 5 to 10 bucks a month. Its called extortion!

Rajah's ears are fine. You cannot transmit loud sounds over a telephone. Can't be done for many reasons. You can however damage your own hearing. If you own ears are ringing, that is your first clue that doing what you did was an exercise in futility. Think about it, say you held a revolver up against the phone and transmitted the gunshot. Do you think it would be more than a pop at the other end? that is all it would be. Wouldn't it be great if we could hook up say 240 volts to our landline phones and somehow shock people on the other end, or perhaps urinate into the transmitter and it would come out the receiver on the other end?. Sure, these are all wonderful fantasy's.

Rajah is just trying to make a living, and the most destructive thing you can do to him is to keep him on the phone as long as possible and then not buy something from him. You can call him dirty names, but he hears those all day every day. No about all I have to offer is turn off the ringer until you are ready to receive calls, and then be patient and keep them on the phone as long as possible to lower their incomes. That is about it from this end.

The recent SPAM calls have been:
  • College Debt ( No College Debt )
  • Car Warranty Expiring ( We don't have a warranty )
  • Someone calling from our power company. They ask if we are using the power company. Hmmm, don't YOU know if you are from the power company if we use YOUR company?:laughing:

Decades ago, my uncle would answer the phone, talk to the Spam O Callers for a bit, then put down the phone while he continued to watch TV. Every once in a while, he would pick up the phone and say something like, "What?", "Can you repeat that?", "Really?", etc to keep them on the line as long as possible.:thumbsup:

Once upon a time, a group of us at work had gone out to lunch, and while waiting for a table, a pay phone rang. Remember pay phones? :D I answered and it was a Spam O Caller so I played along like my uncle did since I had nothing else to do. Eventually, we got our table, and I just let the handset hang down. I put it back on the hook when we left the restaurant.

WOW. Just got a call. It was an important call. My SSN number has been compromised, if I want to talk to an officer, push 1.:mad:

The Spam O Caller's must need money, they sure are calling a lot in 2021.

Later,
Dan
