Speeco/TSC Splitter 4 way cutter head

The other day I was down at the TSC here in Calhoun, talking to the guy who usually helps me. A REAL farmer type guy for once, who understands what I am talking about. Anyway, we got to talking about the 35 ton splitter I have from them and how I have had it for like 7 years and probably 100 cords of wood and the oil is still clean clean many hours after an oil change, it doesn't burn a drop of oil, and starts on the first or second pull..........

To my surprise Speeco has a 4 way splitter attachment for the 28 and 35 ton machines. Actually they have two. A light duty one and a heavy duty. I ordered the heavy duty one and got it the other day. That thing WORKS...........easily takes off 1/2 to 1/3 of the time. Was easy to install and one can change back to a single blade or change the horizontal height of the 4 way in seconds......GOOOOD STUFF................

The pic is what I split in perhaps 30 minutes of splitting. It's a standing dead for a couple of years red oak. 38" at the cut and now that I am finished, split out to a little more than a rick.....4X4X4'. I use the tractor bucket to handle the rounds and lift it to put on the shelf of the splitter. By the way, I didn't know they had that shelf as an accessory until last year............WORTH THE MONEY........Anyway, thought some of you might like to know about the 4 way...........God bless.......Dennis

I have seen the 4 way and often wondered if they live up to the hype, good to know. My neighbor just got the 37 ton from Lowes and he asked me about the 4 way, so apparently they carry it to?

4 and 6 way wedges do indeed work, but usually create more scrap if they arent easily adjustable or removable.

I too would be interested in some pics as I havent seen the one he is talking about yet. And now it is adjustable and removable in seconds...

Here is a bit of information that I found. It is a Speeco part...part no. 40145900. I got that off of the crate that it came in and the mounting instruction sheet. When I go to Speeco, I find nothing about it. When I plug those numbers in at TSC I get the same thing..................
Here is what I know or found out...............there is an el cheapo version:

I understand that this is kinda flimsy but it works...........I really recommend getting the shelf/catcher which bolts right on:

Soooooo......Hope this is some good information for you to use. I think I paid around $179 but am not sure. The thing is heavy as the dickens and has about that much steel for salvage. Basically it is a main part that is shaped like the existing wedge without the sharp edge. Then, it comes with two actual wedges that can be changed out. One is a single wedge and the other is a vertical wedge with 2 horizontal wings. These wedges slip over the main part and are held into place by an a 1" insert pin. Each of the wedges weigh in at around 25 or so pounds and are heavy duty for sure.
Today while splitting, I ran into a huge Oak knot about the size of a football/basketball. The machine grunted and the 4 way just POPPED right through it........GOOOOOD stuff.......Hope this is enough to get you going........God bless.....Dennis

I have the 4way wedge on my Timberwolf PTO splitter. It's great, I wouldn't want to operate without it! I've been thinking about building a 6way wedge (TW wants $500+ for theirs).

On the TW, the 4 and 6 way just slip over the standard 2 way wedge. No pins or anything. They also have a hydraulic option to raise and lower the wedge according to your log. It sure can get expensive "saving money" with firewood, LOL.
