Has anyone ever used on of these little Speedex tractors? I recently aquired one from my wifes father bought new in 1962, it has been sitting in a barn for the last 10 years. Looks like it would start right up has a briggs and stratton on it. If anyone has any details on this tractor please let me know.

just need to know if it has a 12volt battery or a 6volt? Also how many HP does a S14 have with the briggs engine.

The S-14 and S-23 are the only tractors in this line to have a latch on the hood.

I don't know the exact year this series began,I believe 1959. But I do know that
even up till 1963 only the S-14 and S-23 were being manufactured.

The S-14 was first developed with a 5 3/4 H.P.Briggs and later a 6 H.P Only Briggs used.
The S-23 used a 9 H.P.Only Briggs engines used.
I think it was a 12 volt; check starter etc. for markings.

All of these S-Series tractors used the engine slide method to engage
the belt except the S-32, which was first built
in 1972.

Production of S-14, S-18, and S-23 stopped before the stationary engine system was developed in the late 1960's.

does the starter have it marked 12 or 6? Also the regulator looks just like one from and on ford 8N.

This is a starter/genarator combo unit. Should be 12 volt. You can check it by starting the unit and measuring voltage to regulator. I have never seen a 6 volt system. 1962 is a little new for 6 volt systems. It starts the tractor, then after it is running, it acts as a generator to charge battery. They work very nice.
Not many 1962 electric start S14's out there.
Delco made most of these starter/ generator combos.

You seem very knowledgeable about Speedex. I have a 1430 without a transmission. If I buy a 1240, can I use that transmission? Thank you.

How did That work ?
ah the starter has a belt on it to the motor. What does this mean?
It means that's how the starter rotates the motor to start it and also how the motor uses the starter /gen to keep the Bat. Charged.
just need to know if it has a 12volt battery or a 6volt?
Does it have a Bat in it now?
6 volt has 1/2 as many caps as 12 volt Bats.

I have a 1966 and a 1967 Bolens tractor with these starter/genarator units on them.
I think CC used them also back in those days.
