Not sure it really is that slow. The cycle time of a splitter using a hydraulic cylinder can be quite long. With wood that is easy to split like the pine he doing, a hydraulic splitter should just pop the wood by moving forward an inch or so and then having to reverse. Fast but I am not sure that much faster than what he is doing.
It would be interesting to see him split some stringing wood like hickory.
