I just purchased a Fimco 55-gallon sprayer and Hypro 6 roller pump (6500XL) to hook up to my New Holland TC33D. The sprayer came with a torque chain and an 'S' pin that is (according to the manual) for connecting to the pump. It doesn't say how, and I (not exactly a genius, I admit) can't see how to do it. For its part, the pump manual talks about an optional torque arm kit and shows a photo with _two_ torque chains connected to the two arm ends and the PTO shield. Question 1: do I really need to use a torque chain with this pump? Question 2: If the answer to question one is "yes", then can anyone tell me how to hook up the Fimco-supplied chain correctly? Or (question 3) is the Fimco chain useless and do I need to buy the torque arm kit (presumably with two chains)? Thanks in advance! ~bkthrn

You need something to keep the PTO pump from running 'with' the PTO shaft. i.e. to keep the pump from turning. Whatever works best to do that, be it a chain bolted to the pump housing or a steel bar, will do the trick. Sometimes, just the hoses connected to the inlet and outlet of the pump will suffice, but then you have the hose taking the torque.

Something is needed.

I can't speak for your exact model, but in general:

The chain is required to offset the torque. Else, the pump would rotate until the hoses were bound up, then you have such a constriction it doesn't matter if the pump is keeping good pressure.

Anyway, I usually use a piece of angle iron [torque arm kit?] about a foot long bolted to the pump at one end and the chain at the other end. Any rigid place to bolt to is fine for the chain; I often opt for the drawbar supports [but I doubt you have the configuration I'm thinking of on older AG tractors].

You only need 1 chain since you only apply torqe in one direction.

Hi again,
I went ahead and dug up my paperwork to see if I missed something.
I'm attaching a pic from the pump manual showing the chain connected.
The sprayer manual show a nut and bolts connected to the S-Hook in the chain. But doesn't show where it is connected, leading me to believe it is up to you. I assume the chain side is bolted to the pump.
But like you say. There's no bracket assembly shown in either diagram. Looks like there's enough threads covering our prior conversations.

Hmm. It sounds as though I need the torque arm kit (essentially a metal bar that bolts to the pump) or equivalent. Thanks!

The sprayer is not for buckthorn. ;-). Actually, we cut and treat our buckthorn -- then use it to help heat the house during winter (yes, we have some big ones).
