Spreader repair

Purchased a European spreader with nice aluminium hopper, stainless steel spinner and epoxy painted chassis. But the bottom hatch and internal spinner from plain unplated mild steel. After a few months rusted solid. Tried every rust remover chemical known to man and every lubricant. Manufacturer did not want to know and would not send me drawings so I could dismantle and fix. So raided my stainless stock, cut a new side hole and fitted gate as shown. Rubber tube used instead of linkages as handle didn't line up quite straight. But tube works just fine. Just seeded all my paddocks just fine

You don't appear to have cleaned AND LUBED the spreader before storage. Fertiliser is corosive, you MUST clean and lube(diesel/kerosene/WD40) before storage. Also recommend you disassemble the valves to store separatly to prevent corrosion.
Aluminium and mild steel have different electrical properties which togather will accelerate the corrosion.
Ideally the hopper and valves should be all the same metal to reduce corrosion.

Picture taken a few minutes after use. Take your point on lubing. But as for disassembly, no details from manufacture how to do it. But stainless gate now solved it. But will lube it all once i finish in a few days. Don't lube before use or things stick to the lube parts. Main thing is that the manufacturer saved a few bucks not using stainless throughout which i would have done

One another point sometimes the Europeans can get it right. I have a French front loader with a grab on my tractor. Grab bent so I contacted them and said I thought the design was a bit light. Came back to me with new grab FOC and redesigned to take out the weakness. Obviously they cared about their reputation. Still very jealous of all the stuff you have in the US. When i come over on business I spend hours at dealers just looking at stuff. One day going to fill a container and bring some stuff home

My cone spreader is all painted steel with galvanized parts. First thing I do when I'm done using it, is I wash it out with my pressure washer inside and outside and then apply a liberal amount of WD40 to the spreader parts inside. Mine is 30 years old, no corrosion and works just fine. Don't forget to grease the fitting on the gearbox too. I use mine primarily for 46 granulated (prills) urea.
