I am loving my LT1045! Yeah, it's not the biggest boy on the block, but meets my needs just fine.

With fall approaching, I find myself thinking about buying a spreader to make winterizing the lawn a little easier. I'm looking for suggestions on what to buy and what to stay away from, feature sets, and the like.

I can't think of any better place to ask than here! Whatcha got folks?

Hey Webmeister,

I'd go with a broadcast, not a drop spreader. The drop spreaders clog/jam to easy. I also go with one that looks well built and sized for your yard. TSC, Home Depot, your local Farm supply should have a good selection.

If you have an acre or more, I'd go with an 80 Lb capacity or so.

Good luck!

the brinly hardy dropspreader/spike aerator is decent, My moms has been trouble free for about 5-6 years only used 1 -2 times a year.

It can not be called overbuilt that is for sure.

Brinly-Hardy

whatever you end up with, always wash and rinse thoroughly and then spray down with diesel fuel or wd40 for storage

How do you like your ssr Curt? is it a 6.0?

I have the Brinly Dropspreader/spike aerator - it works great for applying things that need good ground contact, I use it for overseeding and it works very well (had it for 2 years now).

For other applications I use a broadcast spreader - TSC brand, very well build and sturdy.

Steve,

I love the SSR, I traded in a 2000 Corvette Coupe on it and have no regrets.
With the retractable top and tons of storage in the back (compared to the Vet with the top stored in back),and it's just a blast to drive. It's 300+ HP 5.3L LS1. With the Corsa exhaust, it probably picked up another 15HP or so?

Plus it's a lot easier getting in and out of than the Vet, the older we get, the harder that was for the wife and I to do gracefully!

I'd like to drive the 2005/2006 6 Litre, at 400HP it's got to be a rocket!

I am glad you like it. If I didnt have kids I might own one. I enjoyed a small part I had in designing it. I wish I was able to join the team sooner. It would have been a real success if times were better.

I built the production line that built the hydraulic system that operates the convertible top. It's really quite amazing, miniaturized multifunction hydraulics. Some of the newer vehicles, like the Volvo hardtop convertible that's coming out, have 11 cylinders that work the top.

The production line was actually assembled at our facility in The Netherlands and then shipped to the facility in Milwaukee, WI. It was the first USA assembled product for the company. Other systems are the Corvette C6, Cadillac XLR, Pontiac G6, Misubishi Eclipse, PT Cruiser, and New Beetle. Neat stuff.

Thanks for the suggestions. I definitely am wanting a broadcast spreader as I already have a drop spreader powered by slave labor (kids) for the edges. I looked at the spike aerators and not leaning in that direction. The lot in question is new construction on the side of a mountain with a lot of rock which still needs removing. At this point, I am mainly interested in just getting some ground cover to keep the soil I have from washing away.

There seem to be several sizes available. I have about an acre of grass to cover, and am looking at the 100 lb capacity models. Is this overkill?

agri-fab makes a good tow behind i think its 125lb cap large dia pneumatic wheels, 3/4" axle available at TSC or thru northern tool. watch the hills though, these like other broadcasters are top heavy.

Did i mention thorough cleaning after use?

chris-you work for karmann?

I bought the Agri Fab at Lowe's or Home Depot about 4 years ago.
It's been a real good unit, topheavy as Rdlin mentioned but well built and good capacity.

I think you might have 125 to 175 granular fertilzer to cover an acre so the bigger hopper means less stops and then trying to get back into your rhythm of speed and direction.

Heres a picture of the Agri unit.

Good Luck!
