Took the day off from work yesterday to do a little spring clean up on the beach. We had a new permanent fence installed last fall and it acted just like a sand fence creating a dune on the leeward side. We cleared a walkway to the gate and now the gate is usable again.

A good deal of sand was blown up around the house over the winter. We carried approx two dozen bucket-loads from around the house back to the beach.

My wife agrees that the tractor was a good investment. ... lotsa fun too!

We also replaced some old shrubs that were quite "beat-up" from the winter winds. The min-hoe is a great tool for this (especially for those of us in the mid-50's).

Love this machine!

Good work as such you might be visited by neighbors. ;)

Thanks for the pics. You really need to find some mud though. That PT is just to clean.

A couple of questions not so PT related. Can you take the sand back beyond your fence and onto the beach? Or do you have to spread it around your "yard".

Also, with that fence, did you notice any change in the amount of sand in your house?

I notice the neighbors doing it. The fencing cannot happen yet in LA but I am sure it is around the corner.

Carl, No, we are not permitted to take sand back to the beach beyond our "yard". I'm not sure why this rule exists. We try to spread it around in the "yard". If the sand builds up too much we must hire a dump truck to haul it away.

The new permanent fence does not result in more sand than that trapped by previous temporary sand fences. If the winter winds persist, then we get a lot of sand. I'm not sure of the longevity of the permanent fence. ... there's not much that's really permanent on the ocean front. Even the houses are at risk. This is the second structure that we've had on this lot. We lost one in 1997. It was an old structure, build in the mid-fifties on a spread foundation (not on pilings like current structures). ... check it out.

My future son-in-law is from Kennewick. Is that close to you?

I must admit, those Power Tracs look pretty versatile!

ARGGHHHH Tell your Daughter not to do it!!!! My wife is from Kennewick... They are all looney as **** ;-)

Seriously, congrats on the future son in law. We are on the west coast, Kennewick on the east. They are known best for the Hanford Nuclear Reservation, which is completely fascinating. If you are ever invited to come visit the inlaws, do yourself a favor and say no, and meet up in the mountains or something like that. Just a big dirty town.

As for the beach info. thanks. I figured they would not let you move the sand back to the beach due to contamination, but given erosion factors.

Can you still get homeowners insurance? I had heard that the insurance companies are trying to figure a way out of not insuring beach front homes on the east coast anymore.

Very cool home though. Very jealous.

Yep -- with attachments such as cement mixers, trenchers, tillers, brush cutters, etc., they are very versatile. They have two huge advantages due to their design:

1. They're very quick in comparison to a traditional tractor, in addition to low impact, due to their articulation. Probably can do the same job in about 1/2 the time if you're required to maneuver much.

2. You can position that front attachment EXACTLY where you want it, and comfortably watch what it's doing, all day long -- in comparison to rear attachments.
