Saturday was a beautiful day for the first mowing of the season with the 2520 and Frontier RC1060 rotary cutter. I would like to have been out there a week or two earlier, but the rain kept things too soggy. As it was, I still needed 4WD in a few tricky areas.

No issues, just a very nice 65 degree partly cloudy day to be out enjoying nature. Some pictures (pardon my arm in one of them) .....

Gary,

You make me miss mowing. There are few things I personally enjoy more than getting into a large open area and either rough cutting or finish mowing. I remember when I was about 11 years old, I went with my dad to the local tractor/mower dealer to buy a new garden tractor. My intent was to mow lawns for money, which I did. I actually made enough money to buy my first car, new (in cash) when I turned 16. When we drove away from the dealership that day (when I was 11) I remember the owner saying, "You'd better enjoy doing this now, because what you love doing when you are young, you'll hate doing when your an adult." He was wrong...Sadly now, I have a goodly amount of property but very little grass, and my parents just sold half of their 30ish acres to a neighbor who is building a new house. Pretty soon, I won't have anything to mow at all.

John,

I've been mowing about 40 years myself (sure sounds strange to say that....) and haven't grown tired of it either. I also enjoy it very much, particularly running the rotary cutter. I really should have been a farmer or heavy equipment operator instead of a desk jockey.

Hi Runner,
Isn't it light in the front end without front weights? I got a Woods 5' rotary cutter for my 2720 but haven't run it yet. I have wights on order from my dealer.

As I get older, I find more often than not that the things that brought me peace, and perspective when I was a teen on the farm still do. Life is really not so complicated sometimes. Mowing is one of those things for sure though putting hundreds of bales of hay in the barn on a hot afternoon probably doesn't need to be revisited..... :D

Rob-D :
I just hung a Woods BrushBull Extreme 60 inch on the back of my 2520 with quickhitch. With loader and bucket on, the front end does not feel light. Without the quickhitch (moving the mower closer to the tractor by 4 inches) I bet I wouldnt need the loader on there. I have no front end weights. The 2720 weighs more than the 2520, mostly in the engine block.

Rob,

With the loader frame on (no bucket, as shown) I don't really notice any lightness in the front end. I even stood on the back of the cutter to see if it would raise the front and it did not.

I don't remember ever trying to run the rotary without the loader frame, but if I ever do, I will probably hang some weights on the front end.

Like Jim said, I think your extra couple of hundred pounds on the 2720 is probably in the right place to help counter the weight of the cutter, but I would still recommend either some front weights or keep the loader frame on.

Chuck, some of my fondest memories seem to be of doing hot, dirty work. I worked a couple of summers as a hod carrier for a masonry contractor, and a couple of others loading boxes in semi trailers. I still think back with fondness on those experiences for some reason. To this day, I still enjoy getting out and doing things that make me sweat like a prostitute in Sunday school. I'm strange that way....

looks great...kinda reminds me all the things I won't do with my 2720...I really just mow and plow the driveway ....but i get surprised at all the things I do with it...lots of odds and ends..yours looks great...have fun

Mowing fields with a tractor and brush hog is one of the most relaxing rewarding things a man can do. Getting about ready to cut my 8-9 acres of fields and trails,[its about 2 ft tall now!],been wet,but we love the rain.
