I have a Greenline EM5000 post hole digger. The spring in the PTO quick disconnect is badly corroded and needs to be replaced. The manufacturer (Benko Products acquired the line) would be glad to sell an entire PTO shaft, but not the spring nor the quick disconnect yoke by itself, but the cost of shipping the entire PTO shaft (to Hawaii) would be exorbitant.

No one local has a usable spring, and I have been unable to find any online source for a spring in anything close to the required size. The spring has an outside diameter of 2-3/8", an uncompressed length of 1-13/16", and wire diameter of 0.94".

Do any of you have a source I might check for such a spring?

Thanks.

Bumping this up in the hope someone who missed it when first posted will have an idea. I have been amazed that it is so difficult to locate a simple spring. Thanks.

It's unlikely the shaft was actually built by Greenline, if you can find out who made it they should have spares available.

Thanks. Attempts to identify the actual manufacturer failed.

Bare-Co has no spring replacement in its catalog, but at least would be a source of a splined yoke. If I cannot find just a spring, I'll replace the yoke.

I assume the wire diameter is .094" . A wire diameter of almost an inch would be an interesting spring indeed. I looked a little for the spring Mcaster Carr and Lee spring. Nothing found. It would not be that hard to wind if you knew someone with a lath.
McMaster-Carr
$20 plus shipping for 42 ft of .092 wire. Maybe you could find someone to wind a couple and give them the extra wire for the work.

Oops, yeah, the wire diameter is .094". Thanks for the suggestion.

Are you talking about this? (small spring in picture)

No. The quick release is a collar that slides rather than twists. The spring I need is a much larger diameter than that in the picture.

It looks like the suggestion of 6sunset6 may be the only answer short of buying a complete new yoke -- to get someone to form a spring from wire.
