A friend recommended "Spy Nuker 2004" (web page) and I downloaded it for their free spy ware scan. It found over 50 different hits, so I closed it, and decided to do a scan with my old stand by programs, Ad-Aware & SpyBot. To my surprise, the only thing that one of them found was the new "Spy Nuker 2004". Is this normal that a program that is supposed to find problems is also tracking its users? If I remember correctly, it was Ad-Aware that found it, and offered the option to delete it, but the icon still is on the desktop. What are the opinions?????? thanks Junk...

It seems i can run 3 or 4 of those spyware programs and they all find something different. I'm down to where i just use webroot spysweeper and spybot-search and destroy. I also use a neat little program called winpatrol which give you options on your cookies and start up programs and lots of other stuff. My virus scanner automatically runs every night and i run the spy programs everytime i download something now. After the trouble i had with my thread " My computer has been hijacked" ,i am much more cautious.

I wouldn't doubt that one bit. I think some of these programs also find imaginary stuff to make you want to use their program. Look in the add and remove programs in your computer and see if it's still there. Also, the icon can be dragged and dropped into the recycle icon on your computer.

The company that sells "Spy Nuker 2004" has sued Symantec for the labelling of their program as "Spyware".

Nothing is free, unless you are paying for a spyware program odds are its had alterios motives.

The yahoo tool bar is probably one of the more legit ways to scan for spyware. They do report back to yahoo but it has much less ill effects on your computer than what most others do.

Dear ****,

Thank you for contacting the Spyware Nuker Tech Support.

Unfortunately we cannot comment specifically on this without specific information regarding what the other application is identifying as infections. However, here are some common reasons:

1. You are not running the most up-to-date version Spyware Nuker 2004. You can do this manually by connecting to the internet, opening Spyware Nuker 2004, clicking the Advanced Options tab, and then clicking the Check Now button in the Auto-Update Options section. This will force Spyware Nuker 2004 to check for the latest update. If this fails simply visit www.nuker.com and click the \'scan now\' button and install over the top of your existing installation. Then re-scan.
2. The most common reason is they are identifying files in the Spyware Nuker 2004 automatic backup files that are created each time you remove infections. Backups are stored in your \\Spyware Nuker 2004\\Backup\\ directory.
3. They are identifying \"false positives\" which are items that the application is saying are infections, but are not actually infections. A common source of false positives are system or valid application files that are similarly named as adware/spyware infections, this can cause some applications to mistake these valid files as infections.
4. They are identifying additional cookies which we do not consider adware/spyware related. Note that cookies are considered an extremely low-risk infection. Also note that some cookies contain information you do not want to lose, such as automatic forum login data.
5. They are genuinely identifying infections that Spyware Nuker 2004 does not currently detect. We will need the following data in order to determine if this is in fact the case:
A. A specific and detailed list of what the other application has detected.
B. A log generated by our Diagnostic Utility available at http://www.nuker.com/products/tools/Diagnostic.exe This will allow us to review your system and research what is not being fully cleaned and removed from your system.
