Hi:
What am I doing wrong?
My squaler is not chopping grass for about 6 inches on the right side. It cuts the grass on that side but lays it down like a hay cutter would do.

The squaler is used on a Yanmar and the rear tires stick out about 6 inches on each side. The BH chops the grass on one side but hot the other.

I have the BH set up with a 1" slope to the front. The BH is equally straight between the rear wheels and straight back-not leaning to one side.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Two thoughts here:
1. Is the strip that's left where the right tires are mashing down the grass?

If not, then
2. Are the blades sharp and not rounded off?

HI;
I seems that it is wider that the rear tire width. And it is only on one side.

The blades are sharp and almost new. I have dressed them one time with a disk on a cut off saw.

Thanks for the questions. I'm beginning to think that this lousy cutting is a result of the BH and not my setup. But I have been wrong before.

I have tried running the BH from 450 to almost 600RPM- same problem.

I have tried lower the BH. I have tried raising the BH. Same problem.

I'm stumped.

You say that it is cutting the grass on the right side but not chopping or mulching it? Is this correct?

Hi:
I have pictures of the setup, cuttings and etc. I don't know how to attach them to this thread. Any advice?

I'm wondering if its related to the slope of the land? But its doing it on the entire pasture and much of it is level.

I'm at a loss.

Driving clockwise or counterclockwise? Cutter owners manual probably says drive clockwise with the uncut grass to the right side of the tractor. My tractor has a mark on the tachometer that says PTO 540. I run the tractor at the 540 PTO speed.

How tall is the grass?

How thick is the grass?

What kind of grass are you mowing?

What is your ground speed? Manual says 2-5 mph, slower if grass is laying down.

The owners manual suggests the front of the deck higher than the back of the deck would result in more mulching and the grass gets cut twice.

Manuals are available at the Bush Hog web site.

Hi:
The cutting RPM is 540.

I go down and then up. So the cutter is running clockwise.

I traded in one of the cheapest cutter and never had this problem. I don't know about you but I need to get some work done daily. At a speed of 2 to 3 MPH it would take a week of 24 hour mowing to cut the 2-3 acres on this field. Its hard to believe that a group of commercial engineers would recommend a ground speed of 2 to 3 MPH. Do the financial people in Selma know that their engineers really printed that in a manual? Bush hog would never sell another unit!

I'm cutting fescue, moderately thick, dry, about 4 to 6" tall- some weeds mixed in. I go 9 to 10 MPH and it takes 2 to 3 hours to cut.

Thanks for the help.

I have the same BH,for many years. Are you sure the blade(on the right) is free swinging and not jammed up.It happens sometimes. They are brush hogs and not finish mowers, they will leave a rough cut on short grass.
