Squaler 60 inch bush hog-whats wrong

I had a problem much like that with a new land pride 5 ft. . The blades were not stuck but I took an oil can and put a good amount of oil on where they swing and it took care of my problem . Are you feeling a little more vibration then normal ? That is a good indication they are not swing together like they should . I also have the 6 ft. model of the BH like yours and have sharpened it dozens of times and it still does a good job .

Not sure about the cut but I don't see any sway bars/chains on your 3pt.. Does the BH sway side to side a lot? At the front end of BH is were grass build up can take place. And of course at the rear end or discharge end the blade would clear and make a clean cut on the left side of BH. Then get shoved back some on the front end and not be fully extended for the right side of BH.

On my rear mounted 6' finish mower on the L3800 I ignore the 540 RPM indicator and set the throttle on full. It isn't much more than the 540 setting. :2cents:

I have the same BH,for many years. Are you sure the blade(on the right) is free swinging and not jammed up.It happens sometimes. They are brush hogs and not finish mowers, they will leave a rough cut on short grass.
I think you are on to the problem. I too have the BH SQ60, and last year I noticed one of my blades was stuck. It took degreasing and scraping along with generous amounts of lube to set it free and begin cutting properly.

Hi:
Many thanks for the great incites into the use of a bush hog. Could be that I want a finish mower look. I have two zero turns 72" and 54" and they do great.

After the last post I looked at the parts and ops manuals on line. Really they were not much help, but some. Then I found a site from UNC I think on Bush Hogs and it was pictorial- what I need. Buried in the fine print was that if you were cutting wet or thick grass put the back down and the front up. The opposite anyway of what I was going. The rear was set on the 6th of 7 high settings. I lowered it to 4. They I upped the front.

It is now cutting better, much better-not perfect though.

I checked the blades and each one is free swing. No grass, dried grass or anything impeding them. To be on the save side I sprayed them with silicone.

It cuts much better after all that. I am declaring victory and going home.

Thanks for all of your help and suggestions.
