After digging into a mound of settled top soil with my LA854, the right side has developed a bit of a creaking noise, like the hull of a wooden ship. It makes the noise on the right side when raising/lowering, even under no load. Did I bo-wack something out of place? It seems to be working fine otherwise.

Have you tried greasing everything on your loader? If that doesn't solve things, go through and check every bolt, making sure they are good -n- tight. Good luck!

check all the welds on the right side of the loader from the bucket back to the main pin and poor some rubbing alcohol over the shoulders of pin anchors where the bolts pass through for cracks on both sides.

I would also check the boom arm welds on the right side and use a good square to check the boom arms where the cross plate is attached.

if you have along level the next thing is to check from boom arm to boom arm for sagging. this can be done with the lower boom arms by raising them a little bit and then checking for level from side to side.

you may have a weld failing and binding the boom at the same time at the cross member in front.

I would also check the diagonal measeurement of the lower boom arms and the upper boom arms to see if they are still the same.

Whenever you dig into a compacted pile of material its always best to work from one side to the other to break the cohesion as the exposed sides wil release first and then break the compression of the pile by weakening it from the open side where the pile was ripped open with a small bite rather than a wide bite.

Thanks, I didn't think of that. I'll check. It was silent before I took a scoop of dirt, and creaky after, though. I didn't mention that I sort of approached the mound at a soft angle, digging in with the left edge of the scoop first--hence the creak in the right side.

I would also check for any loose bolts that hold the loader frame to the tractor. I had a couple bolts loosen and could feel the slightest "bump" on occasion. The way I found it was by chance I noticed a lock nut was not compressed fully. I then checked all the bolts and a couple were loose. Now when I change oil, I check bolts, too.

This is going to sound silly ,but my FEL was doing the same thing . Turned out to be the sight rod for bucket curl rubbing in the tube as the bucket was being rolled back .

Mine does it also, just thought that it was the only one so did not mention it.
