I have Farmi 351P winch on the 3pt. of my TC40D and am getting an intermittent loud squeal from the area of the PTO activator lever to the left of seat. The winch works fine. I can stop the squeal by moving the lever to off. Is there anything below the lever panel, linkage or whatever that could cause this?
I do not believe the winch clutch is slipping since this happens without pulling the activator rope and; anyway, the sound seems local to the area of the lever.

Squealing is often high frequency vibrations. I would look at the lever to see if it is vibrating and rubbing against something. After confirming it is not that, I'd look at the hydraulic valve (below the seat). It could be squealing as fluid passes through or it could be a vibrating hydraulic line with the sound being transmitted back along the shaft going to the PTO lever. When you move the lever to off and back to PTO on, does it immediately start to squeal? If you want to get to that valve easily, you have to completely remove the operator's seat assy. Luckily, it's not too hard to do.

Check under your seat on the right and you should see an " L " shaped copper colored bracket about 1 inch high and that may need adjusting ..it sounds like when you raise your 3pt hitch your hydrualics pump is activated..when you mentioned that the squeal stopped by moving the lever to off that is what gave me the clue..I have been through the same thing..Try raising your 3 pt. lever all the way up until you hear the squeal and then slowly move the lever down until the squeal stops..If it stops without going all the way down with the lever then you need to adjust your hydraulic relief bolt..it is in your owners manuel if you have one...or else let me know and I can help you with it.

Brin, the OP said his noise was coming from the PTO lever on the left side of the seat. The 3PH lever is on the right side and has nothing to do with the PTO. Did you misread the original post?

Jinman + all thanks for the help! So far I've done exactly the irresponsible thing. I took off the winch, put on the Brush Hog SQUEALER, and set off to mow with the thing shreiking. Rather than stop and try to fix it i just kept going and mowing. Up hill it got louder, down hill quieter untill after about 10 min. it just STOPPED SQUEALING and ran fine. I'll probably have to pay latter but for now I'm happy it went away. Sorry to be a poor mechanic.

Things rarely fix themselves, but you probably had some trash lodged inside the PTO diverter valve causing it to squeal from turbulence in the area. I'd keep an eye on it for leaks, but if it works well and the PTO is firmly engaged and doesn't slip under load, I don't know that I'd go looking for something that seems to have gone away.
