I'm looking to put a 72" rotary cutter on my new 41hp tractor.I will be doing some commercial work,so I want to cut not wrench/weld if you know what I mean.
From what I've looked at so far the Bush Hog seems up to the task.I plan on getting the lam. tire, deflector and slip clutch.
If my thinking is wrong please straighten me out,it would be greatly appreciated...........Thanks, Mike
PS are there any places to buy on line and save $$...?

Don't know if this will work for you or not, but try checking across the border- with the U.S.- Canadian exchange rate being what it is you can possibly save quite a chunk of change. And if the implement is manufactured in the US or Canada there is no duty on it as long as there is not an engine on it. $ 1.00 Can= about $ .63US right now. Good luck.

HYDRAMAN, Funny you should mention it,but that's where/how I bought my tractor and saved a bundle,I guess it might work for a Bush Hog too............Thanks,Mike

I've had a squealer for about ten years I guess and if I had to do it again, I'd get a heavier model. The gearcase and hitch have been trouble free, but the rear part of the deck has been rewelded about 3 times now. Granted, I tend to run over anything and everything, but the deck just isn't heavy enough for more than just grass IMO. Bush hog builds good stuff, just get the heaviest model they have. You will be happier in the long run. HTH...

squealer is their "light" duty ... go to www.bushhog.com -- I'm thinkin' you probably want at least their 280 series medium duty -- I was looking at the 285/286 when I ended up buying a woods 600 ---

squealer is the light duty - I have a 5 footer I'm happy with but I don't do commerical or any real nasty stuff. I paid $900 new and the med duty was about $500 more than that. Good quick check is how much the unit weighs. In addition to heavier (100hp gear boxes) they use heavier guage metal for the whole unit which increases the weight a lot. Don't know how important the slip clutch is. I've been cutting for 3 years now and haven't sheared a bolt yet. The swinging design of the blades will absorb a LOT of the impact without transfering the torque to the drive shaft and the stumpjumper does apretty good job of keeping the rigid part from hitting anything. The problem with slip clutches that don't slip periodically is they can freeze/rust up.

I bought a used 5' squealer for $150 a couple of months ago. The drive train was in great shape and it came off a tractor with less than 400 hours on it. However, the deck of the mower is a mess. Every corner is broken, and the sides of the deck are bent every which way. I second the opinion that the deck is too light, but the rest of the unit is fine.

I just plan on reinforcing the deck with angle iron and welds when I get time. Until then, it's working fine, but it's ugly!

Squealer is the lightweight one.... I'd personally go for the 306 series or the 406 models. Extra beefy.
