Massey ferguson 1726e
Bought a new Massey 1726E a few months back LOVE THE TRACTOR!!! But in the spirit of tinkering as we're doing a lot of ground work in the coming months i was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to squeeze a few more HP out of her. Not talking a ton, dont want to tear her apart and rebuild her to something crazy like 50HP, just talking about doing some fine tuning to get say another 5 or so HP out of it. The 25, 32 & 39 HP models all have the same engine, lesser the two more powerful models have tier 4 and computers and what not to dial horsepower out of the engine, they all sit on the same frame, ect. i'd like to think a bit of fine tuning could get me sore more HP as it's clear Massey dialed this one down to skate past the need for emissions stuff.

Any thoughts are welcome, I'm an operator, not a mechanic, i can do a lot with a manual towards fixing things that break and what not, but if its not in a book, or laid out for me i'm useless.

Horsepower is real easy,, simply turn up the RPM's a very little,, you will get the HP!!
My JD 4105 has 41 HP, and it is the same engine that is used in machine that are only rated in the low 30's,, of HP,,

So,, crank up the RPM's 'til you are happy,,,,

BUT,,, if you want to do more work,, the answer is turn down the engine speed,, the engine will produce more torque.

Tractors do work with torque,, so,, if the tractor will see a big load,, slow down the engine,,, :cool2:

For ground contact work additional horsepower will not make a difference.

The fundamental importance of TRACTOR WEIGHT eludes many tractor shoppers. Heavier tractor weight is more important for most tractor applications than increased tractor horsepower. Bare tractor weight is a tractor specification easily found in sales brochures and web sites, readily comparable across tractor brands and tractor models, new and used.

Heavier tractors are constructed on larger frames and longer wheelbases. Heavier tractors are built with thicker steel to withstand greater stress. Heavier tractors have larger diameter wheels/tires, increasing ground clearance. Heavier tractors with large diameter wheels/tires have more tractive power pulling ground contact implements, pushing a loader bucket into dirt and pushing snow. Larger wheels and tires permit heavier tractors to bridge holes, ruts and tree debris with less operator perturbation.

When considering a tractor purchase, bare tractor weight first, tractor horsepower second and (narrowly) rear wheel ballast third.

The 1726E has the IDENTICAL size engine as my 4105 JD,,,

I easily pull a 7 foot landplane with the 4105,,

Find a local tractor shop with a pto dyno have them come out and turn the fuel up a bit and see what they get,
yes more horsepower will get more work done.

....then bigger injectors...bigger turbo...intake...
If it has the same drivetrain as it’s bigger hp kin, why not?
