I needed a boom pole to load 300+ pound rolls of aluminum seamless gutter coil onto the machine located in an enclosed trailer.
At first the simple 3 point model from TSC worked OK. But I had to back up and be just about touching the side of the trailer. So I welded a bracket onto the bucket so that I could put it into the bucket and pin the top link to the top of the bucket. That was OK too, but I can't see through the bucket and it was hard to load coil alone.
Then I decided to load a second roll of coil onto an extra cradle on the gutter machine. This required coming in at a severe angle to get the coil through the side door of the trailer and onto the machine.
Solution: I bought a SSQA plate and had it welded to the rear of the boom pole. Now I simply pick it up with the loader arms. Much more maneuverability and better line of sight.

Nice job!

Unfortunately I can't take any credit, other than for the idea. I've only got a 120 volt wire feed welder that's good for up to 1/4" thick steel. I didn't think it would get the penetration needed. That and I'm certainly not an all star welder.
Had to farm this one out to a pro welder after I bought the SSQA plate from Skid Steer Express. Reasonable price and a heavy built unit.

Nice simple solution for the boom pole. If I had use for one I would do the same thing.
Don't discredit yourself for the welding, designers get paid a whole lot more than welder  I have done the same thing. Use the 120V wire feed to tack everything in place then run it down to weld shop a let them weld it all up so it won't fall apart.

Good idea. I keep telling myself to get my boom pole put together, and I keep holding off. Now I have a roof to do, and the boom pole would be perfect. I even have the QA plate, and all the steel.:(

I like the idea, but that boom pole is rated for 500lbs. I think I'll copy the idea, but use some heavier material to make the boom.
