My B-I-L was re-screening his very large back porch and commented that the stapler he was using was wearing his hand out. Since I'm planning on screening in the porch on my cabin I bought a pneumatic staple gun assuming it would be a big help for both of us. I had my wife pick it up and told her to ask the salesman to show her which staples to get.

They had a Hitachi on sale so she bought it.

So we start looking at this gun and notice two things. 1) The staples are only 1/4" wide and 2) The shortest staple made for the gun is 1/2" long. It seemed to us that neither of these dimensions is good for putting screens up. So we didn't even open it up and he finished the job with a spring loaded hand stapler.

I'll have my wife take it back.

My question is, is there a pneumatic staple gun that shoots wider, shorter staples better suited to screen? The sales guy at Lowes told my wife that he did not think so.

The saleperson was blowing smoke. The model they sold you is called a narrow crown stapler. Hitachi makes several models up to one that shoots a one inch wide staple however none of them shoot real short staples.

I used to have a Campbell Hausfeld stapler that would shoot the same staples as a standard hand stapler does. It tended to jam so I sold it at a yard sale.

Other than that, I don't have any specific brand to recommend. If you do a search on air staplers, there is no shortage of makes.

I have several air staple guns used in diff. types of construction. I do not know of an air stapler thet would work for screening. However, I bought a hand stapler for my wife that was easy to use. I think it is called "Powershot" the handle faces forward and has some sort of cam assist that makes stapling easier.

I think I need to look for one of those. Probably cheaper and better for screen.

I have one that shoots regular staples, it would be great for screen.
It's so old it dosen't have any safety gizmos on it.

I would love to find one that can be used for screens. I have searched for one and I know others have as well. I think that some company is missing the boat on this and believe there is a market for it.

My pneumatic stapler is also one that uses the long narrow staples. Many years ago, I helped one of my brothers staple styrofoam ceiling tiles throughout a house. He used my manual stapler (my hands would never have lasted long with that) and I used a friend's electric stapler that worked great, but I don't remember the brand or know whether they still make that particular one or not. However, wouldn't the Arrow ETFX50 electric stapler from Lowe's that uses T50 staples (3/8" long) do the job well?

N80, Looks like Bird found the tool you need. That looks like it would make quick work out of screening. Price wise, not that much more than a manual stapler. Good Job Bird.

Here's an update. I never did do an internet search so I have no idea what is actually out there on the market. But, I popped into a little local hardware store that sells barbecue sauce made by a local guy that I know. On the way out he had a table of clearance items and there was a little pneumatic staple gun that shoots Arrow T50 staples. Had then on sale for $30. Never heard of the brand. It a 'Surebonder' and you know where its made. They have a website address on the box:

Surebonder: Hot Melt Adhesive, Glue Sticks, Glue Gun, Blind POP Rivets

This is the one I got:

FPC manufacturer, supplier and exporter of Surebonder brand Adhesive and Fastening products for home and industrial use. We export to US and all world markets.

I was commenting to my wife that it might be a piece of junk but for $30 bucks its worth a try. The guy at the counter heard me and said it was a good unit. Who knows.

I'll report on it if I ever get a round to screening the cabin porch, but I've got to get gutters up, and steps before I do the screening. It could be ages.
