Kubota 5040 with FEL
Spent all afternoon friday and all day Saturday pushing dirt to level up a site for a new 40x60 barn with a 20x60' lean to. I didn't take any before pics but I had to push about 10 trees varying from pine/cedar/chestnut. The largest one was a pine about 50' tall and 30" around. I was a little uneasy pushing that one over but after I had done the other/smaller trees I felt a little more comfortable to push it over. I then piled it all up and started pushing dirt. I had to level the site up because it was almost 30" out of level. I got it to within a few inches so the builder is going to take it from there. I've got someone that is going to build a wood framed structure with metal skin and full insulation. He says it'll be up and finished in 2-3 weeks. Once the slab is poured I have some more dirt work to slope the dirt so it will divert water away from the building. I didn't have a transit out there yesterday and only was able to have someone stop by to shoot a couple of grades for me as I was going. I'm going to try to pick up a low end transit/tripod so that I know the dirt will be right when I start to cut the dirt away from the building. Once the building is built I'm going to take down the existing building. Once the building is built then I'll be able to start working on the wiring. I am hoping that it'll turn out to be a nice building. I am planning on this building being my one large project for the year. Hopefully by spring it'll be mostly done.

leeinmemphis,
Could you describe your technique you used to push over the 30 inch pine tree? Did you push it over using the FEL on your Kubota? I'm just learning to drop trees with my JD CUT and am trying to soak up all the info I can get from others who have dropped trees with a tractor ( Best Way To Remove This Tree ).

Sorry I forgot to say that I was using a d4 dozer that we have. I would cut a trench with the blade along the edge of the root ball of the tree on the side that I was going to push on. Then once I felt like I got deep enough I would turn 90degrees from the trench and push the tree over. I mean it literally only took a few minutes to take down the biggest tree we had but it isn't something that my kubota could do. I would try a tree maybe half that size with it but since I have the dozer I just use it for that kind of work. I really wish I had taken some before pics.
