Well, I pulled the starter off and hooked jumper cables directly to the starter side of the solenoid. With a little help the starter sluggishly spun; bad starter. There's a place in town that rebuilds them pretty cheap so that's my next stop. Hopefully that the only problem!

It could be as simple as the brushes (worn out, broken, gummed up). But, rebuilding the starter should give it may years of life.
