My solenoid needs replaced. It's on a TLB (so I have loader arms in the way)

I was going to simply take the starter off but, it's a darn bear to wrestle and I don't want to take other parts off to get to it. I ended up taking the solenoid off and it looks like that is my only problem.

Here's the rub.... when the solenoid came off, the 'plunger' (for lack of better word) that pushes the bendix stayed on the starter itself.

I figured it was meant that way but today, when I got the replacement, the plunger is part of the solenoid.

I'm now left to wonder, does this simply push in the receiver of the starter or, will I have to take the starter itself apart to somehow, attach this internally?

I'm REALLY hoping it slides in/out and there's nothing more to it than that. This starter is wedged between some things and I don't want to take some items off. When I did this the last time, I was able to plan for it and park the machine near a hill where I could set the front bucket on the hill (raised) and the arms were out of the way.

Right now, these arms are creating some big issues to get the starter out. The starter itself of course, is JUST about 1/4" too long to slide out of the opening. I forget the secret "twist & turn" that I had to use to free it from the mount.

If this Solenoid simply slides in/out then I can yank the old one, replace it and put things together and be DONE in 20 minutes. If however, I need to remove the starter itself, it's going to be a LONGGGGGGGG day for me.

Anyone know?

Just one thought about your solenoid. I would suggest you take the starter out and clean and service the benbix. As you know the solenoid has to pull the bendix drive in at a high rate of speed. This might load down the new solenoid from pulling,or as you thought put on the solenoid start the machine raise the arms then take the starter out. if you oil the bendix can you get one more kick out of the old solenoid?

I would normally replace the bendix BUT... since I can't start the machine, I can't raise the bucket. I'm not sure if I can get the starter out without the bucket raised.

I'm sure it will probably come out BUT, it's a heavy booger and you're working out 18/24" so the leverage is worse. About all I can do to hang on to it and try to twirl it around to find the magic angle to let it come out of the mounting hole.

This is parked in the front lawn of my father in law (he had a septic tank issue so we dug down to see the problem)

Speaking of.... the "problem" is that his exit pipe from the tank to the drain field was MISSING about 3' in length.

He's had it pumped twice and the only thing we can speculate is someone dug to find the lid, missed it and ripped out the exit pipe. We dug down about 3 1/2 maybe 4' deep and 4/5 feet away from the tank. It simply did not exist. Furthermore, part of the pipe that was in the ground was crushed (dug last by hand so wasn't me that crushed it)

We have no idea of what 'really' happened here so just looking at the pieces we're speculating.

Either way.... tank is fixed and needs backfilled. Meanwhile, he's got this yellow monster in his lawn.

Hopefully I can get it together today

Use the plunger that's already hooked to the starter. I'm surprised they gave you a new one, it's just a piece of steel and not much can go wrong with it.
