YM-1601D When it started it would run wide open, I would quickly decompress. Found grit in the filter bowl. went looking further down stream at the injector pump took off the injector lines and then the nuts on the injector pump housing that have the springs and valve pieces, Did not remove the pump it self. Found #1 (closest to the fire wall) stuck at the top of its cycle . Got the grit out, all three valves are moving up and down. When all back togather clean fuel, new fuel filter bled system and only #3 is squirting fuel. Asked a John Deere mechanic about it he said the timming is messed up I did not take the pump off and I belive all parts are in order. Any help on this will be most appreciated. Leo

Tell the JD mechanic that the timing can only be affected by removing the pump and adding or losing shims. Are all 3 pistons still moving up and down? If grit got past the filter you could very well have pump AND injector problems requiring professional cleaning.

Leo, nothing to do with your problem, but do you really have a ym1691d? I have never heard of one. I believe I might check the plungers again. May be hung again with some of the grit.

It is likely that you still have a little air in the lines. Could your JD guy have been asking about the shims used to set timing on some small Yanmars. What engine do you have?

leomech,I've got a 1610d,you can't get a manual for it but can get one for the nearest US model which is YM226&226D.I got mine from Sheaffer's,ph.#815-284-3226.also got a parts CD for the 1610d that's in jap. but is pretty easy to figure out because it shows the parts and numbers.I got that from Wayne who posts often on this site.the manual for the 226d is real close to the 1610d and was real helpful to me when I put in a new Headgasket and some other repairs. russ

Up and running, The engineer in me said those little shims won't keep me from running. It started so quickly it startled me. I will replace the packings but for $1.05 I won't let that slow me down. Thanks for All your input and spell check!.
