I've replaced my 2810HST with a new 2638HST and would like to know how others are starting your tractor. The glow plug initiation is different and salesman says a glow plug pre-heat is no longer necessary.

Read your manual then talk to one of the mechanics. The tractor itself may determine whether glow plug use is required and if so how long. A salesman would not be my first choice for specific mechanical information.

I’m sure you’ve got glow plugs, but yours is probably controlled by a temperature sensor which will determine how there used.

If the temp is mid 30's or lower, use the pre-start heater coil like the video shows, AND be sure to let it warm up for a few minutes before moving, to let the hydro, engine, and fluids warm up a bit. I warm mine up for about 4-5 min, and the water temp guage has moved upward.
Since it's likely you won't see below 0 temps, I don't think you have to let it warm up 15-20 minutes like the video shows. But depending on the work you're about to do, the warmer the engine the better.

This is a 2023 model and don't when it changed but the 2638 no longer has the glow position where you turn your ignition switch to the left. I measured the timing when first turning to ignition (not starting) and glow plug indicator turns off after 35 seconds. Once started, the glow plug indicator again comes on and goes off after one minute. The 1 minute of glow plug lumination occurs after any start.

What does your owners manual say on the subject? Some sales men are suspect in their credentials when trying to seal the deal. My thoughts run to this. And I am in no way familiar with your machine. But with my M85...I use it watch the preheat indictor in the dash every time I start it. If the manufacturer put a pre heat system of some kind in the tractor....they think that you

2, should use it
A last thought about the sales mans comment...maybe your last tractor had glow plugs and your new one has a manifold heater like my M85. They do the same thing but do it differently IMO the manifold heater is way way better and much much easier to trouble shoot and fix if it starts to cause you grief at some point down the road....still gotta watch the indicator in the dash for it to cycle/do its thing though.....so still a suspect comment from the sales man

Even after I preheat my system, the glow light comes on again after starting. You should probably wait until the glow light goes off after starting before moving the tractor, to let fluids start moving around. You'll also be able to hear a change in the engine idle. If you're in temps <30°, I'd let it warm up for 5 minutes or so before moving it.
