Im working on trying to get a good price on a steel building for a shop .. Im going with a 40x60 16' to the eve with a 25 foot porch on the front and a 20' on the back .. Ive got a price from Buck steel here in Fl, and Im working on a price from vulcan steel in GA, Buck steel gave me a price of $33,240 for just the building ..and $5,560 for 3 doors 12x12 and $2,260 for insulation than a price of 15,820 to put it up ... tot 54,620 , all on my slab ... What is a good price ?

Now that I am the proud owner of a metal building; I have to say price is second or third on the list of most important things to consider. The person/people/company erecting the structure would be first, the place that provides the metal building would be second and then price would come in third...

First things first: The Company you pay to do the erecting of the building needs to have solid references. An inspection of their work and discussions with their customer is extremely important. A Supervisor (that speaks English) needs to be present each day work is performed. And then making sure the project doesn't get sub'd out needs to be written in to the Contract.

The metal has to come from somewhere. Ask them who they get their metal from - call the metal company and discuss things with them. Do they recommend the erect company you are considering. If something is missing - can (and will) the metal Company provide the replacement part with no discussion.

Price. Hmmm... if the Company you hire does a perfect job and the metal has a warranty... price is only important when compared to your budget. If you can afford it - that's all that matters... just save some money to finish the interior... that's important.

You may want to check with some of your local erectors and see if any of them fab buildings as well. A family friend does this. He can usually fab the building a little cheaper than you could buy a prefabbed one and have him put it up. That way you only have one person to deal with if there is a problem. They can't blame each other for the problem.

thanks ! Its just ive had prices of $17,000 to $58,000 but buck steel said that they would install it ,, they were the only one to say that . do you have someone ??

I don't know anyone in Florida. One thing you could do is ask someone who has a building up where they got it and who put it up. I have never been shot at for pulling up to someone's place and asking about their building. I once stopped and ask a guy if I could take a picture of his house because I liked the design. About 2 hours later I left after a grand tour of the whole place, inside and out. It never hurts to ask around locally.

Building in Florida can be a bit more complicated then anywhere else, do to heavy wind loads, costing more money in steel and wind rated accessories such as doors and windows. As far as quality goes there are many brokers out there who will ship you a building that wont fit together properly, these buildings usually require recutting re-drilling sometimes even welding, these problems end up costing more time and money then the quality company's price. I would recommend asking for several referrals for Florida from each company.

I have worked with steel buildings in Florida for about 8 years now. You should be able to get a handful of good testimonials in your area to check out.
