In the last five years here, there are always someone building shop etc. I there not anyone that uses steel trusses with legs? In my opinion, they are the way to go. You don't need as many and they make it faster to build the whole building.

I suspect the bottom line for most is the cost of steel, and probably less of a consideration, is the 'melt-down' in a fire unless the steel is protected. Appearance may be a third for some.

Apparently you feel strongly about the steel, and would like to hear about your thoughts.

Here is a site that shows the type of leg trusses that I am referring to. This company has open span trusses 24' - 60' wide with leg heights from around 6' to at least 16'. Adams Truss

Here in oz webed trusses are rarely use any more. From what i see on the web Aust has developed the use of rolled galv c and z section further than most countries. It is very cheap light and eazy to work with. As an example 6"x1/16? 150mmx1.9 you can buy for around $5 mt or $1.54 ft?.How does this compare in the US.

I used Adams truss to build a 24'x40' shop 5 years back ago. I like the Adams truss real well. If I ever build a second building I would use some kind of steel truss again.

Where are you in NW Arkansas? I will be in Siloam Springs a day or two this weekend.

The last trusses that I used were bought in 2000. At the time, it was a contract job, but I believe the price was $500 each. This was a 43' clear span with 6' legs. These were set on a concrete footing with 10' centers. Wood perlins were used. The trusses have tabs for the perlins as sell as for siding attachment. I used the Adams site because I currently have 177 of them, in 40' and 43'.
rsislo, I live several miles east of a small town called Huntsville.
