Steering ball nut repair

Steering ball nut repair: The bolts holding the steering housing in my 2210D loosened up and caused both upper and lower bearings to fail. In doing so the 2 small tubes on the ball nut (holding the many small steel balls) were damaged. I was able to reshape them to a point where I think they will function as before. However, I must now get the balls back into the tubes and get the shaft back in place. I think I retrieved all the balls but do not know for sure how many were in there before the damage. In addition, I don’t know the best way to go about reassembly. I know this question will not make much sense to anyone that has not had to deal with this problem but if you have any knowledge of this I would appreciate any tips you can pass on.

The alternative is to buy the whole ball nut assemble which I guess is over a hundred bucks.

As a last resort, send it to Fredicks Equipment and they will send it back like new. Not cheap but I have wrestled one of those until I was ready to throw it in the lake. It may make you live longer. 256-773-9951

I've had to rebuild a couple ballnut assemblies for old ford tractors.... if the tubes don't let the bals flow freely, you will be in for trouble.. if they do flow, and you got all the balls.. good to go.. Hint.. grease packing makes them sticky and easier to load up.. Then the grease disolves easilly in the heavy oil in the first couple of uses..
