Hello, I have a FM35, and the steering started binding up again. It did the same thing about a year ago and then just stoped and has worked fine since. It will work fine for a little bit and then I can only turn it one way, and then it will work just fine and than it will start it all over again. It stated doing this when I was piling bitterbrush on a steep side hill. I can't see anything that is bent or broken. can anyone help me with this problem.....Blackfoot

Not familiar with that machine. Is it too heavy to put the front end up on jack stands and start it up. Then crank the wheels both directions? You might find a dry linkage or something. If you do that make sure it is blocked up pretty well and the stands are far enough away from the wheels to keep from getting knocked out. By the way is that a MF 35 instead of FM 35? I did a google on both and found Massey Ferguson 35. The one I saw looked like kind of an vintage tractor. I would think that there might be a cracked steering cog if that is how they do the steering control.

can you post a picture of the steering linkage on your tractor (probbaly just in front of the radaitor if you have power steering)??? dad has a MF industrial 35 that had a similar problem and if it has the same linkage I probbaly know how it can be fixed...

Well Aaron-Z First it is a MF35, and I always have a terrible time posting pictures, so far I have never been able to do it. But I would sure would like any information that you have as to what could be wrong and how to fix it. this is only the second time it has done it, and like I said it seems to fix itself, and then ker-blam it does it again. and this coming into spring here, I really need to get it fix as soon as I can. You might want to try flushing the steering fluid and replacing, including any fluid in the cylinders. You may get some junk out. If you do, it may be due to a cylinder going bad.

Well I went out and fired it up this morning after feeding, and last night when I shut it down the power steering was still working but now it is like I don't have any power steering at all it won't even turn unless it is moving, and then it don't turn to well. I grease it regular and check things out when I get in rough country. I just don't know yet, I really don't have the funds to start fixing things that don't need fixed, if you know what I mean. So any help from you folks would sure go a long ways. Blackfoot

Well I am still working on it, I started it up again and I grabed the wheel that would not turn and turned it and now it works fine both ways, jacked up. So what do you guys think? I really need to fix this as I do not want this to happen in a spot where the jump factor is involed. Blackfoot

Blackfoot have you posted this question on the Massey Fergosun forum where they are more familiar with the MF 35? Sounds like Aczlan may have an answer though
