does it need a new box or simply need to be rebuilt?

is it a PS or manual box?

most manual boxes just need seals, sector bushings and thrust bushings or bearings.. assuming it is a renewable box and not a throw away with no backlash adjustment or ways to rmove slack / slop.

the box that is on it is manual and is trashed beyond being rebuilt

i think trashed beyond rebuild is perhaps a subjective term. I've rebuilt ford manual boxes that had no steering capability.. broke worm gear, no thrust bearings and no seals, and had to cut the steering wheel apart at the hub to get it all torn down... yet it's a good tight steering box that don't leak right now.. box is 57 ys old...

I had steering box go out on my B8200. I bought the rebuild kit and rebuilt it, last about 6 months and went again. next week was at a Kubota dealer and mentioned it to service manager. His first comment was replace the complete box, it was much more the the repair kit. His sceond comment was why it was breaking, I thought I had put it topgether wrong but he asked if tires were same size. Mine were not, on left side was the standard 6X12" on right was a 6:00 X 12" (about an 1" taller). He told me this was very common failure if tires aren't equal. Must have been right because, dealer had box in stock on the self and I put 2 new tires on and had no problem since. That was 8 years ago.

wow them must be junky boxes and kits. ( will have to remember to not buy a new orange tractor! )

in rebuilding antiques i get mismatched fronts ( and rears! ) all the time.. have some come in with 6-16 on one side and 6-16sl onthe other.. and they are quite a bit different!

same normal wear ont he steering box as most of the others... worn thrust beairngs, leaky sector seals, excess sector backlash that needs to be adjsuted out after seals and bearings replaced.

I wonder if the same co that makes the kubota 'disposable' power steering hoses makes the steering box too? :) ;)
