Just wanted to share with everyone my steering box experience in case it helps someone else. My 1801 had steering issues, likely due to the lack of access to filler plug, a poor design, I found this aftermarket box on eBay and despite it saying not for 4 wd it works fine on my 4x4. New Mitsubishi/ SATOH Tractor Steering Box Assembly 1401 1601 1801 2000 2001 | eBay When it arrived I was pleased to see it's a much improved design, relocated fill plugs and bigger gearing, to fit the bigger gearing they changed the steering wheel shaft angle slightly which helps move the steering wheel further from the operator which is good since I don't have the slim figure of a Japanese farmer who these tractors were originally designed for. Only modification I had to make was grinding away the fuel tank mounting plate to clear the larger casting and the threads on the end of the foot throttle shaft to clear the side cover. Definitely worth it though for the improvement in design. Just wanted to share this information since I was rather stumped when choosing a steering box!
