Hi all.

I have a New Holland TC29. The steering cylinder is pushing hydraulic fluid past the seals when I go hard right with it. (cylinder retracted) Can these be rebuilt? Where do I find parts beside the dealer? (he has screwed me before and I wont take my business to him) Or does anyone know where I can get a used but working replacement cylinder?

Thank you
Jeff.

Most cylinders can easily be re-built...A NH dealer would be the best option unless you have a local hydraulic shop nearby that can source the proper seals for you, but you would probably have to take them the cylinder or the old seals. Look in the phone book under "hydraulics"

Jeff,
take a close look at the rod on your cylinder. Is there any scoring or pitting on the rod. Is the rod bent slightly? If yes you would be better off getting a replacement cylinder since the rod will have to be replaced and the bearings may have to be replaced. Depending on where you live there may also be cylinder rebuild shops.
Like Kenny said let your fingers do the walking through the yellow pages.

Good luck

My 2120 has a slight bend in the rod and is starting to leak enough where I need to take care of it. A new cylinder is over $500. My NH shop has a press and I assumed they could straighten it when they do the cylinder repair. I figure the repair parts will have to come from NH so I might as well get the repairs done there.

Check with a versatile local machine shop, they migh be able to make a new rod for you....the machine shop here in my home town can make any rod you want......and always much cheaper than replacement cylinder.....

We had a bent cylinder rod straightened and then a new gland nut made and seal kit put in a small backhoe cylinder it was a local machine shop who did the work (we put the new seals in ourselves). I think it was about $150 about 5 or 6 years ago.

We have a small press, but as mentioned above, you don't want to nick or score the rod, so we let the shop do it. They have a lot more tooling than we do and didn't hurt it :)
