Steering on TC55

Well... I wasn't looking for posts on this forum since quite some time and I can't belive that the steering issue on the TC55DA is still going. I bought my TC55DA last year, put a Laurin cab on it and have now 110 hours on the clock. I built my new house with it and doing the regular work on 124 acres. Never had any trouble much trouble with the steering. This steering problem might bugged the first TC55DA's but I wouldn't think the later series as posts show. I had more trouble with my Laurin cab, than I had with the tractor itself. So far I am very pleased with my TC55DA. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

From what I understand about this issue, and some one correct me if I'm wrong; the so called steering problem is not seen on the TC48DA or on the 55 with SS. Yes, I agree that revving up the engine will work the pump faster but what one has to wonder is if the same would have to be done to a TC48. I don't believe anyone has both of these tractors to compare, that could give some objective opinion.

We're all just sharing our experience based on our expectations and subjective conclusions. I have had my tractor running in the 2000 rpm range and had the steering hang. Revving up the engine with the accelerator pedal did not free up the wheels. Would this have happened with a 48DA? If I had a wimpier loader I guess the issue would vanish.

I was working my loader this morning loading up a dump truck with topsoil. With a heaping bucket & running at 2000 rpm & 4low, I could feel the steering kind of surging. Travel speed and turning radius makes a big difference. Maybe R4s aggravate the problem because of the wider footprint.

What we(TC55 owners) have to wonder, is if the steering is working as New Holland expected it to work. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif If not, then I would expect them to work out a solution to fix the problem and then issue a recall. Otherwise, since there appear to be so many expectations not being met, maybe NH should spend a little effort in setting up those expectations to potential buyers.

Overall, I'm real happy with my tractor. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif If NH came up with a fix that would allow me to load my bucket to capacity and turn the wheel while sitting at idle in loose sand, I guess I'd have to take advantage of it. Would I trade my 55 for a comparable Deere, Bota, or others?........NOPE!

Even my wife doesn't do everything I expect her to. Can you believe that? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Perhaps neoclark should get a form letter going for anyone to copy and send to New Holland if they have a steering issue. If NH receives enough responses they may take action on rectifying this steering issue.

What do others think?

Thanks for the replys again, I myself think that this is abit of a nonissue. I did read in the owners manual that the steering takes the same fluid as the hydraulic-trans unit, the NH134 I believe. I have already bought a 30gal drum of Amsoil synthetic trans-hydraulic fluid, 5w-30. I will change out the steering fluid also when I see fit. I also looked under some TC35s in the dealers lot. My TC48 is in the shop area getting the rear remote, R4s, loader, block heater installed, so I couldn't look at that one. The TC35 lends itself very readily to upgrading the steering cylinder with a larger one, so I was hoping that the TC48 is the same. I have learned tho, to besure that the tractor, as well as cars are actually rolling before you steer. This turning the wheel with the tractor, and or car stopped puts incrediable stress and strain on the steering components. I'm sure that if I follow the same habits with this tractor, as I do with all my other riding equipment, that I will have no problem. Another misconception I've picked up on is that the TC55 has about 11.5 gal per minute of pump, and the TC48 has about 12. This pump has nothing to do with the steering, only the dedicated steering pump is supplying fluid to the steering cylinder, and they are both the same for both tractors, the 48, and the 55. Could it be the additional weight of the "big" turbo that is putting additional strain to the front wheels??? /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif....LOL. IH3444

If you don't mind me asking... how did you resolve the issue? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
