My steering has been popping out of joint occasionally. The steering wheel turns but the wheels didn't. In the past, I've been able to work it back in. Not this time it's out for good. The steering wheel goes in both directions and only moving the wheels slightly at the end of its travel.

Before I tear into it, is there a common point of failure on these?

Crickets... I got it apart. It's the worm gear and the steering sector shaft. The worm gear is broke in two and the sector shaft is missing its middle teeth.

I'm having a heck of a time locating parts. Does anyone know if an SBA334130040 is interchangeable with the SBA334130041. The 40 is for the 1310 and ht 41 is for a 1300. They look the same except that the bolt on the end of the 40 fits into a slot on the end of the shaft where the 41 looks like the bolt is part of the shaft. Can't really tell from the pictures.

Messicks is a good source for parts and info. Google them.

I would think that the 1300 and 1310 would be very similar as well as the 1210 and 1220. I know those steering parts are very expensive new. Might try looking at used.

Twice in the past I have bought a complete salvage tractor, kept what I needed and sold the rest to break even. I still have lots of spare parts.

You might look around for a good deal on a non-running 1310. Anything under 1800 bucks or so and you can get your money back I would think.

I found someone this site who's parting one out. Yes the parts are unbelievable. They want $465.00 for just a steering sector shaft. Maybe time to trade it in before something expensive breaks.

I finally found the part at Allstate Parts. It was 1/2 the price everyone else wants. Give Andy a call at (877) 530-2010 or (920) 984-3327. The core price was even $100 bucks lower. I'm going to keep that. I think it will cost me more to ship it back than 50 bucks.

Besides... Does anyone need a housing? They go for almost as much as I paid for the column.

What Iv'e learned about Ford Tractors: The fix is easy... The parts are not.

I'm ready for that 12 inches of snow now!

Cheers,
Dave

We had a discussion a while back on the mufflers of that basic tractor, and I think the going price was in the $500 range for one. Easy to replace, after you got a mortgage to buy one, lol.
