Hey guys. I'm new here and this is my first post. I'm in the middle of refinishing my YM1700 and I need to remove the steering wheel so that I can replace it with a much nicer new one but I'm not sure what the trick is to getting the old wheel off. Does it require a puller or something? Please help!

Welcome to the board. A puller makes life much easier when attempting to remove a steering wheel. But there are other ways. Just do a search on removing steering wheel.

The day that I got my Yanmar we unloaded it from the trailer and I paid the man and he left. I then got on tractor and started to go to the barn. I reared back in the seat and when I did I pulled on steering wheel and it came off in my hands. Things got kind of exciting for a few seconds.
The steering wheel on mine is splined with a nut on top. If it won't bump off by hand I would spray a litte WD40 or better yet some Kroil oil let it set then should bump off. I think most of these tractors are shipped in containers with steering wheel off and then reinstalled at dealer or importer so should not be rusted on so tight. The center cap comes off with a screw driver. If that don't work a puller. hope this help some big dan

It took all that plus a gear puller to get mine off last Spring. Like yours, mine is splined and held on with a nut. Greased up the splines liberally when I put it back on. Came off much easier the second time.

Use a good penetrating oil sprayed from the top and the bottom. I couldn't find Kroil oil locally and then found out you can order it by phone or on the web at: KanoLabs.com You might be able to borrow a puller from your local auto parts store, but good penetrating oil makes a huge difference.

I used antiseize on mine when I reinstalled it. What kind of wheel are you going to put back on? I didn't know you had any choices about replacement wheels that would fit these machines?
